I just received a cheque for £3,500 linked to a loan I’ve never signed up for. How on earth is this company still operating?

Got loads of calls from this number, said it was some Indian office pretending to be from MOJ, talking about money I supposedly was owed from some bank charges claim. Tried to get more details and they just got rude and started saying horrible stuff. Honestly, avoid picking up if this number rings you!

Received a rather suspicious call from someone claiming to represent the Ministry of Justice, regarding PPI and an Ombudsman's decision. They were offering a cheque for £3,500 in exchange for an iTunes card worth £175. They had my name and phone number, which raised alarm bells. I've since reported them to both the Police and the Ministry of Justice. I chose to engage with them, dragging out the conversation to occupy their time and protect those who might be more easily deceived.

Got a call from an Indian woman who said she was from the Ministry of Justice, offering to send back £2500 that my mum supposedly paid too much at a&l bank ages ago! Makes me curious if the Ministry’s aware of this.

A person with a weird accent rang me up saying my hubby had some money due from Halifax. I told them straight it was a scam and hung up. Then he called back claiming I'd been rude to him, so I ended the call again. When he rang a third time, he just stayed silent on the line. I was so fed up I left the phone down and ignored him while he kept going on.

I received a call from this number earlier today, and the chap on the other end was an Indian gentleman. He was extremely courteous, requesting to speak with my husband. When I probed for details about the caller's identity, he mentioned it was a representative from some governmental department who required certain information from my husband. I politely informed him that we prefer not to engage in discussions over the phone regarding our personal details. With that, I wished him a good day and ended the call.

Had a call from an Asian woman saying she was from some government dept, something about regulations and management. Told me Lloyds Bank had been charging me too much with interest, APR and all that, and that I was owed £3500. Then she said I just had to pay £175 tax to get the money. Total rip off.

I received a peculiar call from a woman with an Indian accent, asserting she was with the Ministry of Justice. She alleged that I was entitled to a £3500 cheque from the financial ombudsman due to excess bank charges I had purportedly paid, presumably linked to PPI. Strangely, she had my address, which set my alarm bells off. I responded by suggesting they donate the money to charity, but she insisted on delivering it to me first, assuring me I could subsequently pass it on. Given the suspicious nature of the call, I firmly stated my belief that it was a scam and requested my details be removed from their list. Quite unsettling, to say the least!

Got a call from an Asian woman saying she was with the government, something about the regulations and management dept. She claimed Lloyds Bank had been charging me too much interest, at some kind of APR, and said I was owed £3500. Apparently, I just had to pay £175 in tax to get it. Total con!

I received a message from an entity purporting to be a claims regulation and management unit, which is apparently a government body. They indicated that they intended to issue me a cheque for an overpayment of interest!

I've received a cheque for £2,500, but they've asked me to purchase an iTunes card worth £125 first. They claim to be from some government agency, insisting it’s a prerequisite to getting the cheque released. It’s a Saturday, and unsurprisingly, all the banks in my area are shut! Cheers, N Fryer.
