Got an email supposedly from "Paypal" with this number in it, but it’s a complete scam. Don’t trust it!

Got a recorded message from someone claiming to be Dennis Grey at HMRC. I rang back and they told me there was an issue with my tax returns and asked for my National Insurance number and other details. Felt pretty dodgy about it since I never got anything in the post beforehand. The minute I said that, the bloke hung up on me straight away! Definitely a scam.

If I don’t recognise the number, I just don’t pick up my phone. After a few calls with no voicemail or anything left, I went ahead and blocked the number.

I got a call supposedly from HMRC but the voice was definitely American, which is odd right? I mean, why would our tax office use a recorded message like that? It felt like a total scam to me. I worry that older or more trusting folks might fall for it. Seriously, the authorities need to crack down on these dodgy calls before even more people get caught out.

I got a scary voicemail from some robot telling me that if I didn't ring back along with my lawyer, there would be legal trouble coming my way.

Just like loads of others have said here, I got a scary automated message that sounded like a threat. I tried calling the number back but it’s always unreachable. Pretty sure this is a classic scam, like what others have pointed out too.

Just got a voicemail from someone calling herself Claire Williams, claiming to be with HMRC. The voice was American and had this threatening tone about ‘serious consequences’ if I didn’t get back to them. Sounds exactly like the scams people have mentioned before. This needs reporting to the police ASAP - it’s a total scam and shouldn’t be allowed to carry on!

Got a weird call from what sounded like HMRC, a robotic voice telling me to ring their claims department straight away or else there’d be big trouble. The call ended oddly with "Good luck in life." Feels like a scam if you ask me.

I missed a call from this number today and decided not to pick up. Later, a voicemail popped up but it turned out to be some kind of automated message. The recording warned that failing to respond by a deadline could lead to some pretty serious issues.

I rang the number back and some Asian bloke answered saying he was from the legal team at HRMC. I used a fake name at first, but then he looked up the number and started using my real name. When I asked how he’d got my details, he suddenly told me to "hang up the f***ing phone, you stupid b***h." Honestly, if this number rings you, just ignore and block it straight away.

Got a voicemail from 02032894959 saying HMRC are taking legal action against me, sounded like a scam. Told me to ring a number starting with No etc. Bit dodgy, especially as I pay PAYE tax anyway? Now noticing calls coming through with ‘4959’ at the end. Very suspicious.

Sounds like one of those dodgy calls pretending to be from HMRC. They couldn’t answer basic questions that the real tax office definitely would. Pretty clear it’s a scammer trying it on.

This person kept insisting they were from HMRC and sounded really intimidating. Told me to ring back or there'd be consequences. Just like lots of others mentioned, why isn’t this number banned already? I’m also curious if it’s one of those premium rate numbers that charges you if you call back? Has anyone got any info on that?

Got a missed call and decided to ring them back. Some bloke with an Indian accent picked up, said he was Officer John Henderson, and started going on about some lawsuit nonsense. I told him I knew it was a con, and he just snapped, "Then why are you ringing me back, you wanker?" Made me laugh so much!

I’ve been getting about three or four calls every single day from people pretending to be from HMRC. It’s getting ridiculous. I reckon BT should really do something about it - feels like they’re turning a blind eye, maybe even benefiting from it somehow.

Got a voicemail from some people claiming to be HMRC, Claire Williams and John Henderson. It sounded dodgy, so I called back and ended up speaking to John Henderson. He was really rude and just tried to keep me chatting for ages. Took me a bit to twig it was a scam. Now I’m worried about the cost of the call on my landline. I contacted the real HMRC to check and they confirmed it was a con. They told me to report it to Police Fraud, but I can’t get through online yet and the phone lines have a long queue. I’ll keep trying though, hope they manage to track down those two.
