I played along when this guy claimed I’d called some tech support helpline, just to see where he was from. When I asked, he said he was working out of an Industrial Park in Bolton. I told him to jog on after that. Here’s the email he sent me afterwards from something called the Tech Helpline Refund Team: “Hello from The Tech Helpline Refunds. We want to confirm that we are currently processing your refund of £299.99 for computer services you purchased back in February 2015. The funds will be sent via online payment and should show up in your bank within 24 hours after processing. Reason for refund: Service Cancellation Refund Confirmation Code: WPC1212985AS Total amount: £299.99 plus £100.00 Please download the form here: https://download.teamviewer.com/download/TeamViewer_Setup.exe” Honestly, it sounded like a load of nonsense to me.

Some bloke called me claiming I’d agreed to lifetime tech help for my PC, but apparently they never followed through, so I was meant to get my money back. He said they’d emailed me loads. When I asked which address he was talking about, he had to pause and “look it up”. Then he gave an email that wasn’t mine, though a few other bits of info he mentioned did match. Next, he asked me to log in and check my inbox. After that nonsense, I figured I’d wasted enough time on him and told him to jog on.
