On 27th May I got a robo call claiming to be from the tax office, telling me to ring them back about an urgent issue and warning me about legal trouble if I didn’t reply right away. It was a pretty rubbish attempt at a scam but could easily fool folks who aren’t so careful.

As stated previously, please kindly return the call either yourself or through your solicitor. I left you a voicemail, and subsequently called back, only to be greeted by what appeared to be a call centre. Our Panasonic phone showed the call as "international", so we just ignored it. Later, there was a scratched-up voicemail warning us to ring 02031296618 or we'd get legal trouble. This number called me twice in just a couple hours, saying it was HMRC. They claimed I owed £3200 from way back, like 1995 to 2000. Then they threatened I'd get arrested in the next hour.
