Cheers to everyone who's shared their experiences, really helps to watch out for these! Got a voicemail about a supposedly urgent matter where my solicitor needs to get in touch. Oddly enough, they still wished me goodbye and told me to take care at the end. Seems like this one is popping up again.

Got a few messages in like 10 mins, can't say I caught it all but they mentioned something about me or my lawyer needing to ring 020 3129 3857. They also warned not to ignore it or else there’d be legal trouble.

On the 3rd of November, 2017, my answerphone picked up a message from a woman’s voice saying there was a legal case against me and that I needed to ring 02031296283 straight away. She claimed to be from HMRC. It was blatantly a scam, so I didn’t bother calling back. The number is almost the same as 02031296617, just the last few digits are different, so I reckon it’s probably the same scammers behind it.

This number has called me three times now, claiming to be from HMRC. When I tried to call back and asked who I was speaking to, they just hung up. The automated message ended with a creepy "goodbye and take care" line. The first message really scared me because it threatened legal action and said I needed a solicitor. I've since reported the number to ActionFraud and the police.

Anyone getting calls from this number should definitely report it to Action Fraud via their website actionfraud.police.uk. I saw in the newest issue of 'WHICH' magazine they mentioned that HMRC never ring you up out of the blue asking for money. Just thought it might be useful info. Cheers, Martin S

I got a voicemail that said it was from HM Customs warning me I had to pay a fee to avoid legal trouble. It sounded really dodgy, especially because it came through at like 1 in the morning on a bank holiday, which seems unlikely for them to call a personal number at that time. The message was so unclear I had to play it back a few times just to catch the number they gave. Of course, I didn’t bother calling them back.

I came across a warning on the HMRC site about a phone scam going around. Apparently, people are getting leaving a voicemail that claims to be from HMRC, saying they're going to take legal action against them. The message tells you to ring 0161 8508494 and press ‘1’ to talk to the person handling the case. It’s getting pretty common, especially hitting older folks, so watch out for it!

Today i got three voicemails all within about 90 minutes. The audio was really hard to make out, quite muffled and confusing. The message was some kind of threat, telling me that either me or my solicitor had to ring them back, mentioning it was urgent and time sensitive. Honestly, the only thing that kept me calm was how rubbish the recording was - you’d hardly be able to figure out who the caller was! Still, i bet it would unsettle a lot of people hearing that.

Got a call from this number earlier today around 12.55pm. It was a recorded message claiming to be from the tax office saying I had to call back quickly or they'd take legal action. They said it was really urgent and "time sensitive."

Seems like a proper scam or some annoying harassment thing, and honestly, they don't seem very clever about it. I couldn’t find any name with this reverse lookup, so I’m guessing it’s some private landline. Makes me wonder if the Action Fraud folks actually catch these people or just let them get away with it. Got a call from 02031296617, this guy with an Asian accent saying his name was “Jason”. He claimed I hadn’t settled my tax and I’d be fined. Thing is, I don’t even pay tax! So I ended up ringing Action Fraud to report it - definitely looks like some kind of scam going on.
