I got a couple of robo calls saying I had to contact them straight away. I called back on my mobile and they claimed to be from the tax office, asking for my landline so they could "fix the issue." I told them I wasn’t comfy with the call but still gave my home number. Then they asked if I was Mrs [surname], and when I said no, they just hung up. It freaked me out since they used my partner’s name, so I searched the number here and saw similar reports.

This number has been bugging me on and off for about a month or so now. The whole legal threat thing is just nonsense. If you get a call from them, best just put the phone down. I wish the phone providers would step in and sort this out. Calling them back probably just means a hefty phone bill. Definitely don’t call back. Got a call on 04/08/17 from someone claiming to be from HMRC. I told them HMRC is supposed to write to you before calling, and then the caller just hung up straight away. Seems like a total scam to me. With all the comments here reporting the same thing, how are they still getting away with this? Totally horrendous. I got a woman’s voice saying “This is HM Revenue and Customs. Don’t ignore this message. Call back on 0203 1296491 to avoid legal consequences. I decided to ring back a number that had come through as withheld. An Asian gentleman on the line claimed to be from the Fraud Unit of the Indian tax authority. I informed him I would contact the Inland Revenue directly, and just like that, he hung up. It's obvious this was a scam. The authorities really ought to investigate this!

Like the others, got a really bad connection and didn’t bother to ring back.

They never said my name, just left a voicemail telling me to respond or else they’ll take legal steps. The message was half in English and half in some African language. I just ignored it and blocked the caller.
