Got a call saying my elderly mum, who’s got disabilities, owed loads of money. I didn’t even answer at first since it was the landline that hardly ever rings. Out of curiosity, I pressed 1 and was asked to say my name, so I quickly made up a fake one. On 30th April 2018 around 5:28pm, I got a call where the caller said they were from HMRC. Later that same day, I received another ring but couldn’t see a number (checked with 1471). Then on 2nd May at exactly 5:28pm, there was a call from 02033227316 which seemed very similar. Considering I’m going through a tough time with harassment from some family and strangers, these unexpected calls threatening legal stuff really upset me.

Today I got a call claiming HMRC were taking me to court over tax evasion and that I had to pay £2,000 to avoid it. The person said if I lost, the fine could be over £46,000 and if I couldn't pay, I might face 3 years in prison. They even told me to buy iTunes gift cards to sort it out. I decided to ring HMRC myself and they told me they always send letters first and my tax was all fine. They also said it's a scam. The numbers they called from were things like 07254879249, 02030955396, 02033898330, and 03002003300. So if you get calls from these, definitely don't trust them thinking it's real HMRC.

Lately, I've had three calls claiming to be from H.M.R.C. They said I was going to be prosecuted and even mentioned a warrant for my arrest. They told me to press 1 to talk to my case officer. I hung up straight away, knowing it was most likely a scam, but it was still really upsetting.
