We had a pretty much the same thing happen to us like the person before. My partner fed them bogus details when they asked for birth date and bank name. The caller, calling himself "Ross Taylor," promised to refund a decade's worth of bank fees and said his manager would ring later on. When the so-called manager phoned back, my partner told him they’d already handed everything over to the coppers. The response was a string of rude insults, so my partner just hung up. Does anyone know if there's any way to get these scammers off the phones?

Just a quick follow-up to what I said before - got a call today from someone claiming to be the 'manager'. I purposely gave him a fake birthday and bogus bank details, then read out the code Ross had told me. He then claimed I was owed £3000 and that the cheque was ready to be sent. He said his solicitor was nearby and promised to deliver the cheque within 2 hours. When I asked him how he planned to send a cheque with the nonsense info I gave him, he just told me to f--- off. I hung up straight away. Honestly, why do these scammers always get away with it??!

Got a call from someone saying they were with the 'Claims Advisory Group' about getting money back for bank fees. Seemed fishy straight away. I just blocked the number to be safe.

Got a call from this number earlier, but I didn't pick up since I'd seen it ringing before. I put it straight onto my blocked list using BT's new free Call Protect 1572 service, and honestly, it seems to be working pretty well so far. Finally getting a bit of peace, maybe?

I got a call from a bloke with a strong Asian accent who claimed he was John Martin from some government Justice department. I had to ask him like three times to say his name again cos I just couldn’t catch it. He told me I was due a refund for bank fees, but I told him I’ve never paid any in my life. Still, he insisted it was on some government list, so I must have. Ridiculous. I told him he had got his facts wrong, I’m registered with TPS, and he should remove me from whatever list he had.

On January 25th at 11:32 in the morning, I received a rather dubious phone call from a gentleman sporting an Indian accent. He claimed to be representing some sort of banking authority, stating that I was eligible for a refund related to funds supposedly withdrawn from my bank account. I couldn't help but react rather loudly, exclaiming, “What utter nonsense!” To my surprise, he abruptly ended the call.

I received a similar call earlier today. The first time it rang, all I saw on my phone was the word "INTERNATIONAL," so I decided to cut it short and end the call. A few minutes later, the number came through again, this time showing 02023447812. I recognised it as the same caller and swiftly ended the conversation once more. To avoid any future interruptions, I’ve now blocked the number on my phone. Just another dodgy scam, if you ask me!

Got a call from some call centre minutes ago, didn't bother listening and just hung up straight away.

Got a call earlier from a number I didn’t know. I could hear loads of noise in the background, sounded like a call centre. The person on the line, who had an Asian accent, asked straight away for me by name. I just said, “he ain’t home,” to see what they’d say. They just ended the call instantly. Blocked the number after that.

I picked up the phone but struggled to make out what he was saying because of his really strong Asian accent. I told him he must have dialled a business number by mistake. After that, he started swearing at me loads and then just hung up.

Got a call today from someone named Peter Dale, sounded like he had quite a strong Asian accent. They said they'd ring back at a later time. I'm guessing I’ll just let it go to voicemail. Even though we’re on the TPS, the nuisance calls keep coming through.

I just had a call from this same number again. The guy said his name was Harry Hunt but had a really heavy Asian accent. He said he was from the Gains Advisory Group, Ministry of Justice or something like that. They already had my address and name, how they got that I don’t know. Honestly, don’t bother talking to them, just hang up straight away - they’re bad news.

Update on my 17/01/16 post - got another call today from a withheld number. They claimed I'd be getting a cheque for £3600 for some sort of bank charge refund. Then they asked me to pop to the post office, fill out a 'money gram send form', and put down £360.00 before ringing 01612650016 to get directions on how to do the form properly. Safe to say, they’re going to be waiting a while!

Like others have pointed out, the caller claimed to be from the Claims Advisory Group and asked for my date of birth and bank name to supposedly send a refund cheque. The man introduced himself as David Warner, speaking with a strong Asian accent. It was a clear scam, but I played along just to mess about and find out what they wanted next.

Got calls from this number thrice today. Picked up only on the last try, and yeah, just like others said, some guy with a strong accent claiming to be from the Ministry of Justice asking for my bank info to return some charges. He ended the call before I could even say much. Total scam attempt! These calls are the worst, really annoying.

I had an unexpected phone call today from a chap named 'Kevin' Greg, who supposedly works with the advisory group at the Ministry of Justice. He said that I'm entitled to a refund from my bank, amounting to just over three thousand pounds! He mentioned that a colleague of his would reach out to double-check my identity, as they say, "one can never be too cautious, madam!" Quite the peculiar situation, if you ask me!

Had a call from some bloke abroad sayin he's with the ministry of justice doing advisory claims. He asked for my dob, felt dodgy though, so I asked a few questions back. Then he gave me a cheque number supposedly for a refund and passed me over to a supervisor. This time, a different Asian-sounding person answered but they just hung up when I said no to giving my dob, saying something like "if you don't give it, you won't get your money". Bit of a scam, I'd say.

This number has rung me on two occasions - the first was on 22nd December 2016, and they promptly disconnected without so much as a word. The second call came the following day, and it was a bloke with a rather thick accent. He alleged he was representing a Government department called the Claims Action Group, insisting I was owed a refund for my banking fees. However, when I pressed him for more details about his employer, he swiftly ended the call. Quite suspicious, if you ask me!

I got two calls from this number, first on the 16th of December 2022 where they just hung up straight away, then again the next day on the 23rd. It was a bloke with a strong accent saying he was from some government agency or action group about some refund on bank fees. When I asked him exactly who he was representing, he just cut off the call.

got a call from someone saying he was "victor brown" but he sounded nothing like an english bloke. he claimed to be from some claims advice group linked to the ministry of justice, which i know doesn’t exist - i used to be in the mo myself. when i mentioned that, the guy just started shouting abusive words, all swearing like a fool. don’t bother with these jokers. avoid the number 02023447812 if it rings you. i asked him for a direct line so i could check the dept out, but all he did was keep swearing and hanging up. total waste of time!

I got a call from someone saying they were from the Department, then they switched to UK Claims Advisory Group or something. They claimed I’d been paying hidden fees on my bank account two decades ago and asked for my date of birth. I gave them a fake one, obviously. They said a financial officer would ring back later, and I'd need to admit I paid these secret fees so they could send me a cheque. Thing is, I didn’t even have a bank account or mortgage back then! Looking forward to seeing how long I can keep them on the line.

so this one caller said they were from some 'claims advisory service' linked to the ministry of justice. they want your full name including your middle name, your dob and what bank youre with. apparently a manager will call you back with info about a cheque for hidden fees you've been owed for ages. they gave a code and a name as a sort of security measure. I bet their follow-up call will demand more private info too.

Got a call out of the blue that’s got me a bit worried! They claimed to be from the Ministry of Justice, saying they were sorting out refunds for bank charges. They wanted my DOB and which bank I use. The person on the phone got pretty rude when I didn’t give them the info. Really dodgy call if you ask me.
