Got a call from 0200 200 5731, just like others have mentioned before. It was an automated voice claiming to be from ‘HMRC’, saying there’s some tax fraud linked to me and if I don’t press ‘1’ to speak to my case handler, they’ll take legal steps. Total rubbish. I sort my tax through Scotland and the HMRC branch I’d deal with is up there too. Using a fake London number is a dead giveaway.

Got a call from a guy with an Asian accent saying there’s some lawsuit against me. I just told him to buzz off and hung up. They really need to be properly looked into, these scammers.

Just got a call saying HMRC’s gonna take me to court, press 1 to speak to my case worker, but the number was 02003330275. I ended the call straight away but I’m in my 70s and I reckon some folks my age might fall for it. Something really needs to be done about these calls. I wanted to say it was scary and worrying but since I couldn’t choose those options, I marked it as harassing instead.

Really happy I did, cos it’s clear this is a scam. Tried a few other sites Google suggested but none could tell me where the call came from. Like the others here, I nearly hit 1 just to give the person a load of abuse. But instead, I’m gonna report this number to BT and the fraud folks. It’s always the same scam calls, usually popping up mid-morning or early evening. The Microsoft scam is the worst; I always mess with them a bit, then let them know I run Linux on my machine. These scammers really should be shut down for good!

This morning, 12.11, I got a recorded call saying they were going to sue me. They told me to call back on 1. I felt a bit iffy and hung up. This is a scam. If you get a call like this, try these steps: 1. Ask them where they are based, saying something like “I only pay by cheque through the post as I don’t have any bank cards.” 2. Ask a security question, like they should give you your UTR number. 3. Ask another security question, such as your NI number. Since they aren’t legit, they won’t be able to answer questions 2 and 3. 4. If they push you for bank details, give them sort code 08-32-10 and account number 12001039 (these belong to HMRC). If they try to take money from that account, HMRC will track them down.

There’s also emails going round pretending to be from hmrc saying you can get a refund. Legit letters from hmrc always go to you personally and come through royal mail, so be careful!
