Then they asked when I could have someone come round. I told them I wasn’t interested and didn’t have time. They seemed a bit shocked by my answer!

Received a call this morning from an outfit purporting to be part of a 'crime awareness initiative' due to a spate of break-ins in my neighbourhood. They had my surname and address all lined up. The caller said their surveyor was in the vicinity and wanted to assist in preventing burglaries, especially since the local constabulary apparently isn't required to respond to burglary emergencies anymore. When I inquired why the Homewatch scheme hadn’t informed me of this, he was utterly stumped and just kept droning on about his organisation and the so-called purpose of his call. He mentioned he’d ring back after I had a word with Homewatch, but I simply told him not to bother and to cease his incessant pestering.

BT has asserted that they're tackling the issue of nuisance calls, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. I still receive about three to four of these calls daily, and most of the time, there's no phone number to follow up on.

This number has called me a bunch of times claiming they’re from some crime prevention agency. I told them I wasn’t interested but the bloke kept pushing, wanting to talk to my husband. When I told him he wasn’t around, he asked when he’d be back. I just ended the call right there.

I wasn’t quick enough to catch the caller’s name, but it was clear from the background chatter it was a call centre. The man was going on about ‘surveyors’ heading to the neighbourhood to check up on ‘crime prevention awareness’. I’m worried some older folk might think this is legit - my elderly mum actually fell for it and let someone in wearing a bright yellow jacket. I ended the call by saying I’d trust only the police for that kind of info.

Got a call from a bloke claiming to be with the Crime Prevention Agency or something like that. He went on about how security’s becoming more important around here and offered to put in a security system at no cost. Then he mentioned I’d have to cover maintenance fees, which made me think he was after my bank info. I told him it’s a council property, not sure if that put him off but he kept pushing for me to sign up. I just ended the call and said cheers before hanging up.

Had a rather unpleasant call this afternoon regarding some so-called Crime Prevention initiative. It seems they must’ve dug my number out of the phone book since it’s listed under a different name. I made it quite clear that I had no interest in whatever they were peddling and that I don't take kindly to unsolicited calls. Strangely, he started quizzing me on how I figured out he sourced my number from the phone book and got all defensive. I simply told him I’d be blocking his number and promptly ended the call.

Somebody rang me saying they were from a crime prevention group and talked about tracking devices. I said I’m with the local police and he insisted “this isn’t a sales call, so we can call you”. I told him that was rubbish and I’d be reporting it anyway. I said I got his number and was going to report them before I just ended the call.

However, when I pressed her a bit further, she sheepishly revealed that they were, in fact, a private enterprise. Her irritation was evident, and before I knew it, she abruptly ended the call. Received a call from something they dubbed a 'crime awareness initiative' and, of course, they knew my name since the phone's in my name. They were claiming to be dishing out thousands’ worth of security gear at no charge, courtesy of a private firm that’s evidently doing this purely out of the kindness of their hearts! They proposed a “30-minute demonstration” at my home and even provided a reference number. Oddly enough, they mentioned something about monitoring services-I'm guessing that’s where the hidden charges may come into play.

So, off I trotted to the kitchen and busied myself making a lovely cup of tea. When I eventually returned to the phone, after a cheeky four minutes, they were still on the line, how amusing! I then informed the caller that he had headed off to the Isle of Wight. So far, no follow-up call has come in… fingers crossed it stays that way!
