I finally picked up once, and the caller claimed to be from EDF, saying someone needed to come check my smart meter. Got a random call from: 0191 543 3404 This came less than an hour after another random call from: 01615210186! Both calls showed the caller was leaving a voicemail, but the first one actually left a strange silent message lasting about a minute. This second one didn’t leave anything at all. It said the call was from Sunderland, England - but I’ve got no ties to that area. Pretty sure it was just spam. Didn’t answer, reported it and blocked the number.

BEWARE - These calls about EDF smart meters from lots of Sunderland numbers like 3402, 3403, 3404, 3405, 3406, 3407, 3408, 3482, 3489, 3829 and others are NOT connected to EDF. @13/07/23 @17:43 - Just got a call from this number. A woman with an Asian accent said she was calling from 'EDF' and wanted a meter reading. I do need to send them a reading, but the phone number she called from isn’t the one shown on any of their letters for Tyne & Wear. Could be legit, since meter readings don’t really give away much personal info, unlike bank details which would have made me suspicious. Best thing to do is tell them you’ll send your reading through their official online system or ring one of the numbers on your bills instead.

This ain't a scam, not really sure why folks keep saying that. It’s from EDF’s meter reading team asking for your meter reading. I’m actually late in sending mine, got letters and all, but just kept forgetting and time just slipped past. If you want to double check, just visit the legit EDF website, head to their FAQ section, and search for phishing or scam. Got a call from someone claiming to be E.D.F. asking for meter readings, but I’ve never had their service and don’t plan on getting it either. Pretty sure it’s a mistake or a scam.

They told me it was EDF asking for meter readings. But EDF says they only ask for readings through text or email. I told the person on the phone I suspected it was a scam, which she obviously denied. I’ve gone ahead and reported the number to the proper authorities.

Around 7.15pm I got a call from a woman saying she was from EDF, asking if I could provide my gas and electric meter readings. She mixed up my name, but I didn’t bother correcting her. I already have a smart meter and had submitted readings online through EDF’s website, so my account is current. I told her I wasn’t convinced she was legit and ended the call.

I told them I already submitted them back in February, and a meter reader checked them in March - I even had paperwork to prove it. Received a call around half seven this evening from a lady claiming to be with EDF, asking if I could give her my meter reading. There was quite a racket in the background, which gave me the impression I was speaking to someone in a foreign call centre (definitely not local). I told her I would input my readings through the app instead, and she seemed rather displeased with that, abruptly hanging up on me. I tried ringing the number back, and it appeared to direct me to EDF. Honestly, I'm not sure if this is a scam or the real deal, but I’m treating it with caution and have blocked the number. If it was genuinely EDF, then they’re really letting themselves down with service like that; they ought to be more professional!

After doing some digging with a VPN, found out the IP address traced back to India. So don’t trust it just because it’s a UK number, scammers know how to fake it. Stay alert and don’t give them any details. Just watch out!

Got a call that claimed to be from EDF, but I ended the call and checked with EDF who said the number wasn’t theirs at all. They only get in touch by email or post, never by random calls. Did a bit of digging and the number showed up in Newcastle and some others spots. Used a reverse lookup and VPN, found out the IP was actually from India. So don’t trust these calls just cos it’s a UK number, scammers can pretend easily. Stay cautious and don’t share any details with them. Just watch out!

Just got a call from EDF, and honestly the person on the other end was quite rude and kinda passive aggressive while asking for my meter reading. I feel a bit sorry for them, must be tough doing that job, but you’d think with the massive profits energy firms are making, they could afford to hire folks who actually know how to treat people properly. A proper bit of customer service wouldn’t go amiss alongside the heating and power they supply.

01915433404 called me, a woman with an accent claiming she was from EDF, my electricity company. She even knew my name. She asked for meter readings to send me a correct bill, but I told her I just got a bill a couple of weeks back. Then she just dropped the call.
