So I got a call from someone called Jennifer Coleman on 01233281367 claiming I was involved in some kind of lawsuit. Honestly, it sounded totally made up! Luckily, I’m pretty good at spotting these dodgy calls - I spent years teaching computers to older folks, so I know exactly how these scams try to scare you. Definitely didn’t fall for that one!

Absolutely not HMRC, it’s a complete scam. If the tax office was taking legal action against you, they wouldn’t be contacting you with some robotic message first. It’s scary if you haven’t dealt with scams before. Just be careful and don’t respond to anything like this.

So, Jenifer Coleman rang me and left a message about some urgent tax issue. I phoned back but she wasn’t there, and then a bloke named Mr Winter answered. He said he knew all about my case. When I told him I was already in touch with a tax person at HMRC and that I didn’t trust him, he just cut me off instantly! Definitely a scam, avoid these people!

The caller spoke in a very confident and friendly manner, pretending to be on mum’s side. After hanging up, mum rang the police straight away to report it, as she was concerned that others, especially those more at risk, might fall for this sort of thing.
