I picked up the phone once more since it was about the fifth time in two days they called me. I told the person I’m aware they’re ringing, and frankly, it’s getting really annoying. Not to mention all the missed calls from them. I made it clear I want them to quit calling me from their company.

This number has popped up on my phone three times over the past few days so finally answered to see what it was about. A guy who said his name was Alex answered, but his accent was really thick and strange. He started asking if I'd been getting annoying calls, which I said yes to since he’d been calling. Then he went off on some ramble about DD and asked if my card was due to expire this year. I told him I had no clue and we definitely never gave out any card information. After that, I just hung up. A couple of minutes later the phone rang again but I chose to ignore it.

I got a call from someone pretending to be Telephone Preference Management, saying they could stop all my annoying calls. They told me they already had my card info from my phone provider and asked me to confirm my visa debit card’s expiry date. I asked for a moment to fetch my card, kept them on hold and then gave a completely fake expiry date. Next, they asked for a direct debit confirmation number? No idea what that was, but the woman started explaining where to find the sort code. That’s when I lost it, called her a nasty cheat and slammed the phone down.

They claimed to be from TPS, but as far as I know, TPS never make cold calls. They rang me four times on Friday and twice again on Sunday. I ended up blocking the number, but now they’ve switched to calling from another one. The bloke said he was speaking to Mark, but his accent was really thick and Indian-sounding. This is just another one of the loads of calls we've had this week from supposed scammers trying to sell call blocking services. If they really were as clever as they claim, wouldn't they have figured out by now that we’re not falling for their tricks?

I use the BT8600 with True Call for blocking unwanted calls, and honestly, those nuisance calls never get through at all. No need to manually block numbers - the caller has to identify themselves first, which obviously makes fraudsters think twice ’cause they might get recorded, so they just give up. I’d definitely suggest getting it or something like True Call, it’s really helped me feel relaxed again. I add trusted contacts into the phone so they ring like usual, and with the caller ID (you’ll need that) you can tell who’s trying to talk before picking up.

I've been bombarded with calls like this lately. The more folks who report these scammers, the better chance the cops will actually take action. Don’t just ignore it - do your bit and report!

Since we switched our phone provider to Sky, we've been getting loads of calls from this same number and other annoying sales calls. I'm pretty sure Sky sold our number on because when my girlfriend reverted to her maiden name, these callers started using that name when they rang.
