On Wednesday, this number rang me about five times, and I finally picked up. It was one of those voice-activated calls where you have to respond. I said hello, then a recorded message told me to call a certain number to prove I wasn’t involved in something. I didn’t call back, thankfully. After that, a woman speaking with a foreign accent claimed they’d shut off my internet and phone if I didn’t comply. When I questioned her, she just ended the call. Luckily, it didn’t cost me a penny, but I worry that older folks might get scared by these threats.

Got a call from some robot voice claiming there was a hack coming from my phone to a govt computer. It said if I didn’t prove I wasn’t behind it, my line and the computer would get blocked. This morning (22/8/18) I got an automated call pretending to be from my broadband company, saying that my IP was found trying to hack a government website and that my service would be stopped. They told me to ring an 0300 number or hold on to speak to someone. I called my provider directly and it turned out to be a scam.
