What gets me mad is how useless bodies like OFCOM are, saying they can’t do anything about scam calls - “phone numbers belong to the providers and we're powerless”. Seriously, why don’t they make providers crack down on spoofing so only real numbers get used, then just reclaim the numbers and manage them themselves, blocking any number caught scamming. I’m no expert in how phone systems work, but surely they can track this number down since it’s probably registered with BT. Had another annoying ring from an Amazon Prime fraudster today, this time from 01823 480 243. For nearly two weeks, these dodgy calls keep coming at me daily. When the recorded message started blaring, I didn’t hesitate to hang up quick. Just a heads up: don’t ever hit 1, or you’ll end up chatting with a con artist and get connected to a premium rate line, meaning you’ll be footing the bill for their rubbish scam.
