Got a message saying my card ending in xxxx was charged £0.00 at 15:52. It asked me to ring 08004643139 or +441793656789 if I hadn’t done it myself. It also said to reply ‘Y’ if I did make the transaction to lift a block. Felt fishy, as they warned about scams and said if someone else told me to reply, not to do it and call them instead. Turns out it’s a classic Bank Fraud Scam - I even got a follow-up phone call. Reported it straight away!

Got a text like this recently and found out the number they mentioned is actually a legit Nationwide Customer Service line. Tried ringing it but only got some automated response, so I just hung up without giving any info. I also checked the mobile number that sent me the text, and amazingly, no one else had searched for it before! I dropped a comment warning it might be a scam. Since I can't see anything suspicious on my banking app, I’m convinced it’s dodgy and plan to block the number straight away.

Mate, this number is legit, just check your bank card or even Nationwide’s website to see it there! But if you get some dodgy text claiming to be from them and it has this number as a clickable link, don’t tap it - it’ll probably send you straight to scammers. Best bet is to ring the number yourself. Same advice goes for Nationwide’s fraud line: 0800 4643139, make sure you dial it directly.

Got a message claiming a payment of £36.08 was made on a card ending in the last four digits of mine. I had a look on your site and yep, it's a scam for sure. This kind of msg is new to me, felt a bit odd. Also got a couple texts yesterday about parcels supposedly sent to me, asking for money - clearly a scam. Somebody attempted to con my elderly father-in-law for £79.45. We received a text saying the payment was stopped and to ring a number, which at first we assumed was just part of the scam. However, it might actually have been from Nationwide (his bank), who are located in Swindon. The call displayed no caller ID, which made us even more suspicious.

Some bloke called me saying there were direct debit payments coming out of my account for Carphone Warehouse. I told him I didn’t think that was right and mentioned that my partner logged into our joint account app, and there was nothing showing for Carphone Warehouse. He kept pushing and I ended up just hanging up. After that, he kept ringing non-stop, which was really annoying. I decided to ring Nationwide to check it out and spoke to a lady there. She told me they never call personally in cases of fraud, it’s always an automated message. She was really helpful and confirmed straight away that the number was part of a scam. Her advice was to just ignore, block, or report the number to my phone provider. I’m glad I checked with the genuine Nationwide. If you get a call from this number, don’t pick up or just block it and make sure to let Nationwide know.

I rang them up, it's the number printed on the back of my Natwest Credit/Debit card. Made sure the call connected properly and went through all the right steps. No problems at all, they gave me the info and updated it for me. Even got my latest bank statement showing recent transactions, so it’s not all dodgy. SCAM ALERT!!!

Got a call to my missus earlier tonight, seemed pretty legit at first. They even mentioned the last 4 digits of her bank account and knew our local area.

They started listing a bunch of well-known companies asking if we'd been in touch with them, but something about it seemed off.

Hung up and rang Nationwide straight away. Turns out it’s a well-known scam they warned about.

Got a call from someone claiming to be NatWest. When I started googling the number they gave me, the call just dropped. Then they rang me again, but this time from the real NatWest number. Got this so-called fraud alert from Nationwide after they flagged a cloned card on our account. Got a call from what looked like my bank's number, Nationwide, saying a dodgy direct debit got stopped. They asked me to confirm my postcode and how much was in my account. Weird thing is, they already knew my name, postcode, and some account info because I’d been chatting with a scammer pretending to be Adam on Gumtree a few days before.

I got a call from this number earlier, they said someone tried to use my card so they blocked it. I checked out the number here and it says it’s a real Nationwide one, but I heard scammers can still fake these calls. My card’s right here and there’s no way I’d be using it at 11.15pm anyway. Got a call from a bloke claiming to be from Nationwide’s fraud dept about a direct debit of over £400 linked to JK Scaffolding in Coventry. I’m certain it’s a scam since I’d already cancelled my card after speaking to Nationwide and my account’s on hold atm. Someone rang me saying they were from Nationwide, saying there were two tries to take £2000 through Booking[###]. Everything sounded legit until they asked for a 10 digit passcode. I told her I didn’t know who she was, and if she really was from Nationwide, she should freeze the account and I'd deal with it myself later. The moment I said that, she just hung up.

this scam works because the fraudsters are the ones who tried to take money from you and got it blocked (by nationwide). so they already have your info, card details, how much they tried to take, and when it happened. then when you go to the branch, it looks like everything matches up perfectly. they also send letters in the post telling you to call the same numbers. sadly, it seems like nationwide might send out similar genuine letters too, so the safest bet is just to pop into your local branch, bring all your stuff with you, and get it sorted face to face. definitely better to be cautious.
