My voicemail's been buzzing with four calls in just three days.

Received a phone call where the caller claimed to represent HMRC, but I told them I didn’t know who they were and refused to discuss any account details. Later, I got a message that it was actually from the dentist. Quite odd and feels like a scam to me.

They keep ringing me up, saying they’re from Advantis - or sometimes Advantage or Atlantis - always changing the name. Then they pretend they’re from the dentist’s office. It’s obviously just a scam trying to fool people who might not be on their guard. What’s worse is Advantis actually has a number that looks almost identical with the same area code, so it’s really easy to get mixed up. Pretty dodgy stuff.

They said on the phone they were from a firm named Advantis Credit and that they were chasing money for HMRC. While this company is mentioned on the HMRC site, you can’t be sure if the number calling you is genuine or some sort of scam. They weren’t very helpful on the call and just kept pushing for payment. I’d suggest getting in touch with HMRC yourself to be safe.

I’ve been receiving calls from this number incessantly, and they keep inquiring about a business by name that doesn’t even exist here. They claim to be from a firm called Avantis and insisted that I request the removal of my number from their records, to which they agreed. That was several weeks back, yet here we are. They continue to ring me! Just this very morning, they asked if I had my Avantis card number - whatever that is! It’s infuriating and relentless; this marks their fourth attempt to reach me this week alone. Someone really ought to put a stop to these relentless calls.

I received a text that falsely asserted they had just got in touch regarding "my account"-which, mind you, was completely fabricated. They failed to specify which account they were referring to, adding to the confusion. Just a quick note to everyone: HMRC will not reach out to you over the phone unless you've given permission beforehand, and any requests for payment will always be delivered in written format first. So, stay vigilant!

They didn’t leave any message at all, and when I tried ringing them back, a voice prompted me to hit "1" to have a chat with an advisor! Trust me, I'm not falling for that one. Just got a call from Advantis, they say they are approved debt collectors for HMRC. You can verify this on the official HMRC site. They had all the proper details, amounts owed and case numbers - stuff only HMRC would provide! Maybe you have some unpaid tax or VAT, not every call is a scam! Received a letter from Advantis with this number on it. Total scam. They threatened me about some unpaid tax before, but I checked with HMRC and everything’s all paid. Definitely a scam, watch out!

Proper persistent scammer, and it’s really annoying.

On top of that, I've also received a bunch of automated calls from the same number, claiming to represent Avensis and insisting that I owe money to HMRC. It's quite vexing, to say the least!

Trust me, if you ring Advantis you’ll get friendly people who genuinely wanna help and will do their best for you. They’re super patient and really understanding too.
