I rang Advantis using their listed number, but ended up speaking to a call centre, and they wouldn’t clearly say whether that number was genuine or not. They did mention that their initial method of contact is by phone (though I find it odd that HMRC has my mobile number in the first place). They also reassured me that if they can’t reach you by phone, an official letter will definitely be sent out. So, I’m planning to wait for the letter before doing anything, and I’d advise anyone else getting these calls to do the same. Stay calm - if it’s legit, the letter will arrive.

I shut down my business when it didn’t work out and was told that the debt belonged to the company, not me personally. I had a chat with Advantis (they seem genuine), but honestly I wasn’t bothered. They’ll say whatever they need just to get you to pay up. If the debt is linked to a different legal entity, DON’T GIVE THEM A PENNY!
