Why on earth would I share my personal info with a stranger! I asked the woman who she was and where she was calling from, but she just kept pushing for my details before telling me anything about herself or how she got my number. She outright refused to say anything and kept pestering me for my date of birth, full name, and address! I didn’t give her a single thing - I just told her she won’t get any of my info until she tells me exactly who she is and where she’s calling from, simple as that.

This 01782401131 number belongs to some scammers pretending to be from Aventis Debt Collection. They try to trick you into giving out your private info by pretending they called the wrong number. I never pick up my home phone anymore because I haven’t shared that number with anyone, so any calls I get are most likely from fraudsters. I usually get around 3 or 4 of these dodgy calls daily.

Kept getting automated calls to ring this number (Aventis looks like a legit debt collection company working with the DVLA). Eventually I gave in and called them back. Chatted with a friendly guy who told me my number was linked to someone else's account, a person I don't know. The only thing he asked was my name to check I wasn't the account holder, which I wasn’t. He said he took my number off their system and apologised for the mix-up. The call lasted about 2 minutes. I’ll see if they phone again but everything sounded above board to me.

Advantis is a legit debt collection company working with the DVLA. I missed my car tax reminder because it was sent to my previous address, which meant I got fined. I was a bit iffy about calling Advantis after seeing some dodgy reviews, so I contacted DVLA directly to check if they had actually hired them. Turns out they did, so I paid the DVLA straight away and they sorted things out with Advantis, cancelling the case.
