Got a letter from Advantis asking me to confirm or update my address, which seemed strange since it arrived at my present place. I rang the number they gave and was told I owed more than £1000 to HMRC for PAYE and had to pay straight away - obviously, I didn’t. After that, I got in touch with HMRC who said they had no record of this and reckoned it was probably a clever scam. Really relieved I found this site to double-check.

Got a letter followed by a text from someone calling themselves Advantis, saying they’re from HMRC and that we owe them some money. They kept mentioning an account with them that we’ve never heard of. We haven’t got any debts with HMRC at all, in fact the last couple of things we got from them were refunds going our way. A few days back, I got a call on my landline with a recorded message telling me to ring them back on that same number. I didn’t bother with it. Then today, I noticed a call from the same number on my mobile. Since a few people know both numbers, I figured it came from a firm I’d used before - or at least thought I could trust! They played the exact same message again, so I just ignored it once more and decided to check online for any info. The only issue I got going is with Sky, who keep demanding a payment I don’t agree with - I cancelled but they still kept taking money. Big thanks to everyone who shared what they knew here!

These annoying calls keep coming through all the time. Luckily, since my phone company now includes Caller ID, my "Truecall" device works really well! Whenever a number I don’t recognise or want rings, Truecall picks up for me (so it’s them losing out) and plays a message like “Please stop calling us, hang up now!” Best part is, my phone never even buzzes or rings, so I’m not bothered at all. Just letting you know how I deal with it, not trying to sell anything!
