Got a message from these lot called Advantis, saying I’m gonna get a letter about HMRC soon. They said it’s urgent and told me to either check a link online or ring 01782 40 11 21 with a reference number 29942992. Pretty sure it’s a scam, so I just didn’t bother with it.

I received a message claiming I had unpaid business tax with HMRC, showing a due amount of £7666.99 after I put in a reference number via their link. But when I rang HMRC directly, they confirmed I didn’t owe anything. Just so you know, the real Adventis site asks for both a reference number and your postcode to log in or pay. The link from the text only asks for the reference number, which seems dodgy. Don’t hand over any cash! If you’re unsure, always double-check with HMRC or go straight to the proper Adventis website, which has a valid contact number.

Advantis Credit Ltd, Minton Hollies Building, Shelton Old Rd, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, ST4 7RY. I've been getting letters about a debt of £8,275, supposedly from HM Revenue and Customs. I called them, read out the letter, and they told me it was a scam and that they're treating it seriously. I tried looking up the address on Companies House, but it doesn’t appear there. I'm not sure how to make the letters stop, but just to be safe, I've reported it.

Advantis is a scam - they even admit it on their own site. They tried to con me out of £14,000 for some fake HMRC debt. I’ve reported them to HMRC, Advantis themselves, and the National Fraud Team.

For the last couple of months, my mobile has been inundated with texts and voicemails from this number claiming to be Advantis, insisting that I contact them regarding a personal business issue. Upon doing a bit of research, it turns out they are a debt collection agency or something along those lines. A few weeks back, one of their messages mentioned they'd sent me a letter, yet I've received none of that correspondence. I’ve chosen not to respond to their incessant communications, as I don’t have any loans, outstanding bills, or debts of any sort. Interestingly, they seem to only target my mobile; my landline remains untouched. I recently registered with the Telephone Preference Scheme, but it seems the benefits of that haven't kicked in just yet.

The nice reviews on this site are obviously from the scammers themselves. Why else would a happy customer bother searching to check the number? I get around 4 calls daily from these numbers and I never pick up. I've never shared my landline with anyone, so any call I get is 100% a scam. Just be careful, all the glowing comments are fake and from the scammers. Don’t trust them.

I’ve received two phone calls from this number. Each time, the caller mentioned someone by the name of Mr Brittan, who doesn’t exist here. It's rather frustrating, especially since I've got no outstanding debts or anything of the sort. I can’t help but suspect that BT might have inadvertently shared my number with others. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might put an end to this nuisance?

This number seems to have a habit of calling me every single day, yet when I pick up or let my voicemail take it, there’s nothing but silence on the other end. It’s rather irritating, to be honest!

We’ve opted for ex-directory status, yet this number seems to have managed to track us down, indicating a breach of our privacy. Whenever I answer, there's nothing but dead air on the other end. I suspect the caller is banking on piquing our curiosity enough for us to dial 1471 and trace them back. Not happening, that’s for sure!
