I just got a call from this number saying they were from the "telephone preference service" and they wanted to get some personal info from me. Seemed suspicious to me.

I picked up but no one said anything, so I tried calling back and got a message saying "this number isn't recognised." Surely BT should do a better job vetting who gets to use these number blocks?
