They'll buy your old debts, even the ones from years ago, and try to trick you into a payment agreement, sometimes asking for as little as a quid to start. Once you agree, you’re basically stuck with them under a contract. Best advice? Just don’t answer their calls at all!

Now, out of nowhere, they're pestering me saying if I don't get in touch to complete some income and expense form, they'll send someone to my place. I keep getting calls from numbers ending in 940, 941, 942 and all that. Luckily, blocking those numbers seems to do the trick these days. It’s mad that nothing else seems to stop them though. TPS doesn’t seem to have any clout against these calls - feels like a total waste of time. Only genuine firms seem to care about TPS, the scammers just couldn’t care less and carry on regardless.

I got a call from Cabot Financial. They wanted me to confirm my identity first, so I told them I needed to know how many accounts they had on me before sharing anything. They just said they can't give out that kind of info because of data protection rules. So, I told them if they can’t prove who they are, then I can’t prove who I am either, and then I just ended the call straight away.

Been getting calls nonstop about a debt that’s not mine at all. I've explained over and over that I’m not the person they’re after, but they keep pushing, asking for stuff like my date of birth and National Insurance number - feels dodgy, like a scam trying to get info. I keep blocking their number but they still manage to leave voice messages late into the night, sometimes 3 or 4 in the morning and several times a day. There’s gotta be a way to put an end to this, right?

Even though I'm on the TPS list, those cheeky folks from CABOT FINANCE just won't quit. They ring me pretty much every day between half past eight in the morning and just before eight in the evening. They keep swapping the final two digits of their phone number but the rest stays the same. I've blocked several of their numbers, but they keep popping up with new ones. It's really annoying. Cabot, unlucky for them, the debt they’re chasing is more than 6 years old, which means they can’t legally collect it due to the statute of limitations. If they keep hassling you, try this. First, ask them to provide a copy of the original credit agreement - they have to stop all collection efforts until they do (usually they can’t, so it’s game over for them). Second, insist that all contact be done by letter or email, so you have proof. Third, tell them you’ve withdrawn any implied permission for collectors to visit your house.

I also got an email saying something like "I can see you’ve made payments, but your accounts aren’t in plans! Putting them in plans will cut down the calls you get!"
