Since the 28th of October this week, we've been on the receiving end of calls that simply disconnect as soon as we answer. Starting on the 31st of October 2018, we decided to use 1471 after each call, and it's been quite the eye-opener! We’ve noticed a variety of numbers popping up, yet they all deliver that same frustrating hang-up routine, leading us to suspect they're all from one source. Just the other day, one of these callers rang up looking for my wife specifically. Upon discovering she wasn't available, they promptly ended the conversation with no further ado.

Got a call from a lady with a foreign accent claiming she was from a Life Group that worked with loads of well-known insurance firms. I wasn’t having it, so I just blew my referee whistle super loud into the phone, and she ended the call pretty sharpish!!!

Got a call from some bloke abroad saying he works for a few insurance firms. He said he was checking on my life insurance and wanted to confirm my info and see if I was paying too much or not covered enough. When I told him my insurance wasn’t with any of the companies he mentioned, he just repeated the company names again. After I said no again, he seemed lost for words. Had a similar call before so I knew it was dodgy. COMPLETE SCAM, watch out!

Some guy with an Asian accent said his name was Gordon and asked for me by my full name. He wanted to check the “details they have on file” for my life insurance with L&G! Thing is, I don’t even have a policy with them. After telling him off a bit, I just hung up and blocked the number. 👍

Got a call from some guy claiming to be from the ‘Review Department’, said his name was Andrew. When he began quizzing me about insurance, I told him I’m signed up with the telephone preference service and ended the call. Seemed fishy, like a phishing attempt to me.

Some guy with an Indian accent rang asking for someone I’ve never heard of. I told him they’re not here. Then he wanted me to confirm that and asked for my name. I said no, you won’t be getting my name, I don’t have to confirm anything to you, and I’m not buying any of your sales or scam nonsense. He then warned me not to call back or I’d get a load of abuse. I just hung up. What a waste of time!

Got a call from an Asian bloke who spoke really broken English. Could barely catch a single word he was saying. I think he mentioned life insurance or something like that. There was loads of noise in the background, so definitely seemed like a dodgy scam call centre!

Got a call from 'Frank' with a South African accent claiming to be from Life Care Insurance's review team. He refused to say where he was calling from or how he got my details. I told him he might be breaking GDPR rules, but he denied it and wouldn’t answer any of my questions. Kept interrupting, saying “let me talk and I’ll explain,” but really, he was just pushing insurance on me.

FRAUD! The background was ridiculously noisy, almost deafening, and the caller kept talking on top of me making it tough to catch what they said. Claiming to be an insurance agent with info on your current provider, but when I asked for details, the only thing they knew was my phone number. When I refused to reveal who I insured with, they told me to confirm if they guessed right, then they just started listing insurance firms left and right! I ended the call and honestly, if you ever get this call, do yourself a favour and just hang up too.

I reminded him he already said he had my info, and he tried cutting me off. I just spoke louder, so I won! 😂 After telling him his whole spiel was rubbish, I ended the call.
