Got a couple of calls today from this number. Didn’t pick up the first time, but when I did answer the second time, this guy started asking loads of questions about what IP address I was using. I just got a call from a number starting with 0161 939, supposedly from Digital Mail Ltd. The person on the other end was pushing hard, saying I was entitled to a refund for something. I told them I’m under 18, which frankly doesn’t add up. Yet, he had my National Insurance number and my full name, which freaked me out a bit. When I mentioned my age, he suddenly said there must’ve been some mistake and then hung up. Looking back, I wish I’d left the line open because I could hear the guy yelling to others, sounded like they were in a pub or something. His accent was thick and fast, maybe South African? Sadly I didn’t catch his name. I’d advise steering clear of any calls from the 0161 939 range - seems dodgy and scammy. When I tried calling back, it just went to an 0870 number that charges premium rates. That number just plays a recording about reporting the call. If you want to try and report, ring 020 7060 2000 and ask to talk to someone, but they’ll probably deny making any outbound calls. There’s a website notes.dmclub.net/1094 where people say these numbers are being spoofed too. Just beware, some of these calls are traps to get you to ring back and get stung with charges. At last spoke to a lady who called from 0161 939 0228 - I've blocked loads of their numbers already. She said she was from Seven Insurance and dealing with PPI claims. I got a call on my phone today from 0161 939 0228. When I answered, the person started talking about some kind of PPI check. I told them I wasn’t interested and was about to hang up, but they kept asking me why I wouldn’t take part in a free PPI check. You could hear loads of people chatting in the background, so I guess it was one of those call centres. I’m sure they’re probably ringing loads of people with different scams, cause I’ve no idea why they'd even have my number for PPI stuff - I never had any to claim on. I’ve had loads of calls from this number and the sound quality was rubbish, like it was through some dodgy internet connection. Definitely not a legit company behind it. One bloke introduced himself as Mike and started talking about PPI, but I hung up quick because that’s not something I’m entitled to at all, I’ve already looked into it. It’s clearly just a cold call where they’re reading off a screen trying to catch anyone they can. If they had proper info on me, they’d know I don’t qualify. No clue who they are, but I reckon it’s connected to PPI claims or something similar. I also get a bunch of calls from private numbers that turn out to be PPI scammers when I answer. When I asked who was calling, the woman started getting really rude and aggressive. Naturally, I didn’t hold back either. She was proper loud and disrespectful. Hey, just got a call from these guys again (that’s the 8th time today) so I thought I’d pick up this time. A young lady with a South African accent apologised, and when I asked to speak to a manager, she put me through to a bloke. He told me their company is called One-call, and apparently, they're operating out of Durban, South Africa, kinda like Nev’s call centre. When I asked where they got my number, he initially said "a national database." I pointed out that they’re in South Africa, so that sounded off. He then admitted that was a fib they’re told to say. The real deal is that they bought the latest phone lists in January from BISL Limited (the folks behind Compare the Market) and Moneysupermarket.com Financial Group Ltd through a company named Paaleads.com. Because I had willingly given my number to one of those companies, it was fair game to be sold on for marketing purposes. He did promise to take my number off their list and told me that if I get any more hassle, I should reach out to the TPS and Ofcom. He even gave me their contact details, which was nice. So, guess there’s some decent people doing these calls after all. For the record, the caller ID said OneCall (or One-call, 1call).
