Looks like a phishing attempt. What’s worrying is they somehow had my name and a different email address than the one I put on Gumtree. If you get a ring from Road Traffic Management, I'd recommend just ending the call straight away.

Yeh, I just tried this out with some number I found on Gumtree. Total scam, they’re just grabbing numbers from there. The best plan is to keep them on the line and waste their time, maybe spin some daft story like you got in a crash with a submarine or whatever. I had this one bloke going for like 30 mins. Proper muppets.

Just got the exact same thing happen to me about 2 minutes after putting up a car ad on Gumtree. Anyone know who these muppets are ringing from a Road Traffic Management firm using the Leicester code, 01618 188658? They really need to be stopped, so I’m planning to phone GUMTREE on their support number 0208 605 3325, if I can actually get through and someone picks up! It’s weird because the ad doesn’t show up for like an hour or two, yet the calls come straight away after you post it!

I put up an ad on Gumtree and got a call from someone who sounded like they were at a call centre. They asked me to ring back in 15 minutes so their mum could speak to me about the puppies I was selling. When I said I wasn’t going to call back, and mentioned he sounded like he was calling from a call centre because his English was quite bad, he just said I didn’t understand what I was saying. I ended the call and blocked the number straight away.

Had a pretty similar run in like others here - put up an ad on Gumtree & got a call from folks claiming to be from Road Traffic Management. They said they’d got my info from the Motor Insurance Database. I was apparently entitled to £4000 for a crash I never had. What’s worse, they first mixed me up with another person and gave me their name and address with no security checks at all - it’s scary to think how often that might be happening. They rang me 3 times in just 5 minutes - have blocked them now!

I put up an ad on Gumtree and got a call from this bloke with an Indian accent, started off saying there’d been an accident, then suddenly he was going on about how lovely my name sounded and asking if I was married! I told him that was none of his business and asked to speak to his manager, but he said he couldn’t. I warned him if he didn’t put me through, I’d ring the police, and he goes “oh now you’re blackmailing me”?? Then he asked me again if I was married! What a muppet! I blocked the number but somehow they always manage to get through.

Got two calls from different numbers, one from what claimed to be London and the other Manchester, right after I put up an ad on Gumtree. Gumtree seriously needs to sort this out and stop these Indian firms from using their info. Some of the 'helpful' reviews on here are obvious call centre workers - so obvious!

Some bloke from India called me right after I posted an ad on Gumtree. His accent was so thick I could barely catch what he was saying. He kept talking about some accident in the past three years. I hung up, but he kept ringing back repeatedly. Eventually, I answered and he wanted details about an accident I supposedly had in that time. I kept telling him he was the one who called me, so he should explain what info he had on me first. In the end, he just ended the call. Score one for me, zero for him, haha.

this is exactly like loads of the other reviews here. i put up an ad on gumtree and guess what, not long after, these guys start blowing up my phone. in just 11 minutes, they’ve called me 6 times. i’ve been having a bit of a laugh, going back and forth with them on the phone. lol

Just got a call from these people, honestly dont answer if you get a call like this. They said they were calling about some insurance for an accident from a Gumtree ad. Let the guy talk for a couple mins, then when I said sure I’d take the fake compensation, I just hung up. Already told the police, need to put an end to these scams!

I’m keen to track down the physical address of these businesses, especially since I’ve already asked them to eliminate my information from their records. I plan to send them an invoice for my time, as the constant interruptions have become rather bothersome.

I got a call right after I advertised a room for rent on Gumtree. The caller asked me about an accident I reportedly had in the last three years. I could hear what sounded like a call centre in the background. An Indian gentleman said he was from the motor insurance bureau. I thought I’d have a bit of fun and replied, "Oh, I've had quite a few accidents; which one are you on about?" He mentioned a minor incident that involved an injury. So, I shot back with, “I've actually been injured quite a lot over the years; which particular incident are you talking about?” And just like that, he hung up... How amusing!

Got a rather curious call right after I listed a spare room on Gumtree, inquiring about a mishap I supposedly had in the past three years. I could definitely hear the buzz of a call centre in the background. An Indian gentleman introduced himself as representing the motor insurance bureau. i got a call on this number from someone asking if i’d been in an accident within the past three years. i told them no, but they said they had details about it and that i could claim compensation up to £3200. i wasnt convinced and said no thanks, seemed like a total scam to me.

When I didn’t give him any specifics, he asked if we could chat on WhatsApp, then turned really rude and started swearing when I refused to share anything. Proper unpleasant experience.

I got a call from a woman with an Indian accent, talking about road traffic and telling me to remember a road accident from the last three years. I said no thanks and hung up. About two minutes after, the same number rang again. This time it was a man with an Indian accent. I told him I’d just had a call and that I hadn’t been in any accident. He then said, "No ma'am, I’m calling from KFC," laughed a bit and ended the call. Later, I got a voicemail full of weird stuff about KFC and £200.
