Got calls from a numbre claiming I'd been in a car crash. Pretty sure it's a scam, so I told them to buzz off nicely. But they just kept switching numbers and calling me again. When I picked up, they’d just hang on me - really started to get on my nerves. Absolute muppets.

Just wanted to add an update to my earlier note from 19/04/17. After putting up an ad on Gumtree to sell my car, I got a call from this number. The person had a South Asian accent and said they were calling from MTA Solicitors about a Road Traffic Accident. I reached out to MTA Solicitors myself, and they told me they never make unsolicited calls like this. So, if you get any unexpected call claiming to be from MTA Solicitors, it’s almost definitely a scam. Be careful!

I received a call from an Indian gent whose accent made it rather difficult to comprehend him. He then handed me over to another chap, also from India, but thankfully, he was somewhat clearer in his speech. They claimed to be contacting me regarding an accident - funny thing is, I've not had one at all! I decided to play along with their little charade. The first call came from a mobile number, 07490558355, and was followed up by a different number, 01510556677. They identified themselves as representatives of Slater Gordon Solicitors based in Manchester, which sounded a bit dubious to me! I may have posted an advert on Gumtree, but I’d love to find out the identities of these jokers. If anyone has any insights, feel free to share. I’d be quite keen to have a word with them about their so-called accident!

Received a call from an Indian gentleman whose accent was a bit tricky to decipher. He then transferred me to another bloke from India who, fortunately, was clearer. They claimed to be phoning regarding an accident; however, I was merely stringing them along as I’ve never had an accident. The first call came from a mobile, 07490558355, followed by a call from 01510556677. They asserted they represented Slater Gordon Solicitors based in Manchester-sounds like a right joke to me! Interestingly, I had posted an ad on Gumtree as well. If anyone has any insights into who these chaps are, do share. I’d be keen to have a word with them about their so-called accident!

Received a call on 5th October 2016 from someone claiming to be an insurance coordinator. They said my details were shared with them by Churchill insurance and insisted they could assist with my claim. It's all complete nonsense - clearly a scam! Best to steer clear and not engage with them.

Having perused the comments here, it all makes sense now. I too recently posted an ad on Gumtree and checked the phone number option during the listing process. Not long after, my phone started buzzing off the hook-four calls in just twenty minutes! So, a word of advice: stick to just providing your email when you’re putting up ads on Gumtree. You’ve been warned!

Got a call from the number +923479748158, someone claiming to be from MTA SOLICITORS, VICTORIA LIMITED, dealing with road traffic accident stuff. I had put a car up for sale on gumtree, and after being kept waiting on the phone for like 20 minutes, this number then tried to add me on WhatsApp out of the blue. Bit strange if you ask me.

I’m dealing with something really similar here! I put up an ad on Gumtree selling my car and ended up getting calls from an Indian bloke. He’s used loads of different numbers like 01615145214, 07745145214, 01645145924, 07745145924, and 07745181248. It’s definitely the same person ringing each time. When I told him I'd ring back later, he told me to ask for someone named Tom.

I had the misfortune of receiving a couple of calls from the mobile number 07736458356, and I must say, the individual on the other end was quite impolite and certainly not the best communicator in English. At first, I assumed it might be related to my ongoing claim with MTA Solicitors, but alas, it seems it was merely a coincidence. Their manner was appalling, to say the least!

Just a few days post my Gumtree advertisement, I received a rather dubious call from an individual claiming to be associated with MTA solicitors. This chap, who identified himself as Indian, asserted that he was in the business of helping folks recover compensation for a car accident I never caused. He was eager to extract various personal details like my address, license plate number, and my name. When I inquired about how he got hold of my phone number, he casually mentioned it was sourced from a DVLA database. After having a chat with the actual firm, they confirmed that similar incidents have occurred previously, particularly targeting those who are advertising vehicles on Gumtree. Consequently, I took the initiative to report this to both the original company and the police.

I’ve got a bit of a pickle here. I took out insurance for a Cat D car that had been written off, and now it's officially registered in my name. What an absolute nuisance these ambulance chasers are, claiming you've been part of a little bump on the roads! It’s always some abrupt individual, often Indian, who’s curt and downright unpleasant. They tend to cut the line the moment you request to be taken off their list. Quite the bothersome lot, I must say!
