Got calls from a numbre claiming I'd been in a car crash. Pretty sure it's a scam, so I told them to buzz off nicely. But they just kept switching numbers and calling me again. When I picked up, they’d just hang on me - really started to get on my nerves. Absolute muppets.

As soon as I put up my car for sale on Gumtree, my phone started ringing non stop with loads of calls. They all came in super quick, one after the other. Some of the numbers were 02016454674, 01113138853 and 01618188186. Definitely looks like a scam.

Just wanted to add an update to my earlier note from 19/04/17. After putting up an ad on Gumtree to sell my car, I got a call from this number. The person had a South Asian accent and said they were calling from MTA Solicitors about a Road Traffic Accident. I reached out to MTA Solicitors myself, and they told me they never make unsolicited calls like this. So, if you get any unexpected call claiming to be from MTA Solicitors, it’s almost definitely a scam. Be careful!

Got a call from an Indian bloke speaking so quick I couldn't catch half of it, then he handed me to another chap, also Indian, but at least I could understand him a bit better. They claimed they were ringing about an accident I'd had... but I played along since there was no accident at all. The first call came from a mobile number 07490558355, then later I got a follow up from 01510556677. They said they were from Slater Gordon Solicitors based in Manchester, but yeah, right... Like that's ever gonna happen. I'd also put an ad up on Gumtree, so maybe they got my details from there. If anyone knows these jokers, please tell me - I’d love to have a chat about this ‘accident’ they think I had!

Got a call from some bloke with an Indian accent, could barely make out what he was saying. Then he handed me over to another guy, also from India but easier to understand. They claimed they were calling about an accident I’d supposedly had. I played along but I haven’t been in any accident at all. The first call came from a mobile, 07490558355, and then they followed up from 01510556677. They said they worked for Slater Gordon Solicitors in Manchester - yeah, right, pigs might fly! I had put up an ad on Gumtree recently. If anyone has a clue who these muppets are, please let me know. I’d like to have a word about their ‘accident’ claims!

Got a call back on 5/10/16 from someone saying they were an insurance coordinator, said Churchill insurance had given them my info and that they could assist with my claim. Complete nonsense, definitely a scam - best to avoid talking to them.

After going through the comments here, it kinda made sense. I put an ad up on gumtree and for some reason I clicked the box that shows my phone number. Not long after, I got like 4 calls in just 20 minutes! So if you're posting on gumtree, I’d say just stick to sharing your email instead of your number.

Got a call from the number +923479748158, someone claiming to be from MTA SOLICITORS, VICTORIA LIMITED, dealing with road traffic accident stuff. I had put a car up for sale on gumtree, and after being kept waiting on the phone for like 20 minutes, this number then tried to add me on WhatsApp out of the blue. Bit strange if you ask me.

I’m dealing with something really similar here! I put up an ad on Gumtree selling my car and ended up getting calls from an Indian bloke. He’s used loads of different numbers like 01615145214, 07745145214, 01645145924, 07745145924, and 07745181248. It’s definitely the same person ringing each time. When I told him I'd ring back later, he told me to ask for someone named Tom.

Shortly after I put up a car ad on Gumtree, I got a call from a bloke claiming to be with MTA Solicitors. He said they were helping people get compensation from an accident that wasn't their fault. He kept trying to get details like my address, the car's registration, and my full name. When I asked where he got my number, he said it was from a DVLA list. I rang the firm he mentioned and found out this kind of thing has happened before, especially to folks selling cars on Gumtree. I ended up reporting it both to the real company and the police.

Got these annoying calls from some dodgy people claiming you’ve had a little car crash. It’s normally some bloke from India who sounds really short with you and gets proper rude. If you ask them to stop calling, they usually just hang up straight away. So frustrating!
