Just like loads of people here, I asked how they could possibly cut 35% off my bill. She kept going on about fitting three bits to my gas meter. What even is that?! I told them no way to the guy who was meant to be local. Honestly, feels like a total con.

Energy scam, pretending it’s not a cold call but it totally was. Be super careful with this one, the caller sounds like an older posh woman from the middle class. Proper dodgy call, honestly.

Lovely lady on the phone, real polite, saying someone could ring me to help cut down my energy bills. But when she kept saying the call was 'nothing to worry about', it made me suspicious. When I asked for details on how they’d actually save me money, she couldn’t really explain. I said I always check out any company before dealing with them, and she just told me to have a look at their website homesave[###]. I looked up Trustpilot and the reviews are shocking, loads of stories about older folks getting scammed for about £2,000 on supposed central heating flushes.

A polite woman answered and said it wasn’t a cold call, despite the fact it definitely was an unsolicited call. She said she could lower my energy bills by 35% without switching suppliers - which sounded like complete rubbish. Surely she wouldn’t have any power to change the prices unless she worked for that energy company herself. I turned down her offer to send a rep round, who I’m sure would just try to get me to change my energy provider anyway, going against what she had said on the phone. My advice is to say no to any visits and do your own research for cheaper deals.

I was bout to let it go to voicemail when I picked up the phone - said hello and gave them our number and then they just hung up right away. Now that lockdown’s easing, these scam calls are really starting to flood in.

A woman called me with a really smooth voice, going on about how she was connected to some energy companies and claimed she could slash my bills by a third. I never properly caught which company or service she was from, her answers to my questions were kinda jumbled and confusing. After a bit, I told her to just send me a letter and then ended the call. Honestly, it felt quite unsettling, totally unexpected and just a pointless hassle.

Picked up the phone and could hear loads of noise like a call centre in the background. The person was asking for a "Mrs Long". I said, "Sorry, I believe you’ve got the wrong number," there was a brief pause and then they just hung up.

Recently, I was contacted by Direct Energy regarding setting up appointments. Then, I received another call from a number - 01618205970, where someone claimed to be arranging a visit and referred me to their site, ukhomeserve.com. However, neither of them could explain how their services might help me save any cash! It's got me intrigued, and I’m rather eager for the upcoming visit. It could turn out to be quite entertaining!

"Direct Energy" is a US firm, and their UK branch is part of Centrica, which also owns British Gas. I wouldnt touch them with a barge pole, especially since Centrica's shares have tanked recently and their CEO just quit. Clearly, there’s trouble brewing and I reckon they’re probably calling around trying to sign up new customers since so many have left British Gas lately.
