Someone rang me claiming to be from Ocean Finance, saying their records showed I’d been on an all-inclusive holiday and that I could claim compensation for any illness I got, no medical proof needed. I told them I had no issues on holiday, but they insisted I could still claim without evidence. I told them I wasn’t about to make a false claim, then they just said goodbye. This has got to be some kinda scam, right?

Surprisingly, the authorities had supposedly obtained information about the incident by quoting my vehicle's registration number. Consequently, I find myself currently facing certain restrictions as a result of this unjust accusation.

They operate out of a call centre and dial loads of numbers at once but only speak to whoever answers first - which is why you get those silent calls. Don't worry, they'll keep trying and keep trying until you're the one who picks up first! My tip is, if you don’t know the number or recognise the area code, just answer and hang up straight away. Don’t bother stressing over the quiet call or the annoying person once they do manage to reach you. Take control right from the get go. You might not be able to block them completely, but you can certainly keep it to a minimum.
