Just got a call to my office line from someone named Claire Williams with the ‘serious’ problem she mentioned. I could hear a busy call centre behind her and she sounded Dutch or something. We didn’t chat long before I could tell it was a scam. Told her I’d be reporting it. Happened like 10 minutes ago.

Got a call from someone saying they were Claire Williams from HMRC, sounded like an American woman with a robotic voice. She kept saying I’ve got to get in touch right away or I’m in trouble with legal stuff. It was really creepy and threatening. If you do owe HMRC, I guess it could make you suspicious, but I’m definitely not bothering to call back.

Got a call from 0161 694 8210 today - total scam. They pretended to be from HMRC saying I owed back taxes. The chat dragged on for ages, but honestly, it was hard to understand them because their English was really poor and they had strong Indian accents. I had to keep asking them to repeat themselves. They even threatened that the police would be after me and I'd be dragged to some London Supreme Court over an alleged unpaid tax issue. If you get these dodgy calls, definitely report HMRC-related scams to [email protected]

On 8th March 2019 at 09:37, I got a voicemail from some automated voice claiming to be 'officer williams'. I just ignored it and ended up deleting it straight away.

Got a call from this number but couldn’t answer. When I rang back, the person claimed to be from HMRC and said I owed more than £4,000 in income tax from 2013 to 2017 (which can’t be right since I was just a student back then). They then went on a rant about seizing my belongings, cancelling my passport and driving licence, and even having a warrant out for me. Suddenly, the amount owed jumped to £19,000! I told them flat out they were scammers and hung up immediately.

I received a robotic message purportedly from HMRC, on behalf of someone named Clare Williams, urging me to return the call immediately. It was immediately apparent to me that this was a scam, as HMRC would never reach out in such a manner. I did call back and ended up speaking to a gentleman with an Indian accent, and it sounded like he had others in the background with a similar accent too. He requested my name, which I declined to provide, pointing out that since they had contacted me, they ought to know my number already. When I pressed for his name, he replied 'John Anderson' and then fell silent before disconnecting. I'm convinced this has been going on with various other numbers as well. PLEASE DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THIS CON! If HMRC genuinely need to contact you, they will always do so in written form.
