There was a lot of noise in the background and a man with a strong accent called claiming to be from 'Homecare.' He said I was due a £109 refund on a washing machine warranty and even knew my name. When I asked which washing machine he meant, he said he wasn’t sure about the brand. I then asked for my policy number, but he just ended the call. I'm thinking of reporting this to the ICO as well.

Kept getting calls from someone claiming I was owed money for an appliance warranty refund. They kept asking for my bank details like sort code and account number. I've never paid for a warranty on my budget washing machine anyway, it's quicker and cheaper just to replace it when it breaks. Total waste of time!

Like many others, I got suspicious when he kept pressing for my bank details and sort code even after I asked what company he was from regarding my home repairs. When I firmly said no and requested some proof in writing, he just hung up on me. Definitely a scam, beware!

Got a call from someone named Harry, sounded South Asian. They’d somehow dug up my old address from over 4 years back. Chatted about some refund for appliance insurance, mentioned a cheque would be sent - then suddenly asked me for my bank details! Felt a bit dodgy if you ask me.

The caller started by saying my name and told me I was due a refund of over £100 for a mistake on a washing machine service. I told them they were mistaken since I’ve never had that service done. Got a call from a woman with an Asian accent claiming I was due £119 back on my washing machine insurance. When I asked how she worked out that amount, she couldn’t really explain. She then wanted my address to send the refund, but I told her all my info was already on the insurance plan and she should be able to check if she was genuine. She then tried to turn it around and suggested I was making a fuss for no reason. Seemed very sketchy to me!

Got a call from someone asking for my bank details to supposedly refund me for washer insurance, which I never even signed up for. I received two phone calls recently. The first one claimed that my washing machine insurance was about to expire, while the second was regarding a refund of £119 for an overcharge. I've had this particular number ring me twice within the last fortnight. The first call supposedly informed me about an overcharge for my washing machine insurance, claiming I was entitled to a refund of £119. Quite odd, considering I don’t actually have any insurance that they should be aware of. The second call was this morning (15th April 2022) around half eleven, where they warned me that my broadband service with BT was on the verge of being terminated. Funny that, as I don't even subscribe to BT, Virgin, or Sky for broadband! They mentioned that the service would be discontinued due to non-payment. At that point, they began asking for my banking details to process the refund. That's when I decided to hang up. Just a heads-up about the number 01615201960 / MOGILY.

Somebody rang saying they were from Homecare, saying I'd paid too much for the washing machine cover and were wanting to give me some money back. When I said "sounds good, send a cheque then", they just hung up on me. These days, almost every ring is either some dodgy scam or telemarketer. My phone's so full of blocked numbers, I can only keep about 30 at a time before having to clear some out. They keep switching up the digits, so it’s a bit of a nightmare to keep up with.

Just a couple of posts to explain what you need to do if you want to put an end to these overseas scammers stealing from vulnerable folks and pestering the rest of us. It does need a bit of effort, but I’ve been reporting scam calls and texts to the police database (I’ve saved the link as a favourite). Sadly, it’ll take loads of people filing these reports before they actually do something about it, and thousands do report scams here every day. You won’t see any instant results if you do this, but if no one bothers, these scams will keep going on forever.

Beware of scams! If you come across any shady calls or texts, make sure to report them to the police fraud system straight away. Just search for ‘action fraud’ on Google and visit the ‘police.uk’ website. Find the ‘report phishing’ section, read the instructions carefully, then fill out the form with the details of the scam. Don’t forget to include any links or web addresses involved. You don’t need to sign up or give personal info unless you’ve actually lost money in the scam. The police rely on these reports to track down scammers and help protect everyone.
