This number rings me at all sorts of times. When I finally answered, it was one of those robotic voices saying thanks for calling and telling me to email a Hotmail address to take my number off their list, but it never says the full email. Proper strange.

This number rang me yesterday, but I wasn’t at my desk so my assistant answered instead. The caller claimed he was Peter Dunn from HMRC and asked me to ring him back urgently. He gave the number 01615190767, but when I tried calling it, there was no answer or connection. To be sure, I contacted HMRC in Manchester and spoke with both the PAYE and self-assessment teams. Neither of them had any record of a call to me or anyone named Peter Dunn working there. I’m Richard Swift.

I missed the voicemail and gave them a ring back, figuring it was about my sofa delivery. Some bloke named 'Brian' picked up with a really odd accent and said he was from HMRC. I just ended the call right then.

This scam is seriously dangerous and preys on people who are already struggling! They’re really good at talking and tricking older folks and those who are vulnerable. A while back, when I was on antidepressants, I got a call like this. It nearly gave me a heart attack and I almost lost £4000. Thankfully, the bank team was amazing, they knew straight away it was a scam and helped me through it. They even organised a lift home since I was too shaken up to drive.

Got a call on my mobile from that number. Heard an aggressive recorded message before the line went dead. I rang back 01615190767 from my home phone and some guy, sounding Indian and calling himself Martin Gayle, picked up saying he was from HMRC. When I asked where their Manchester office was, he refused to give an address, telling me to just look it up myself. As soon as I said he was trying to scam me, he ended the call. Got a call from a guy who sounded like a recorded Asian male voice, or maybe just really good at mimicking one. I told him it seemed like a scam and he got quite irritated, insisting it wasn't. Definitely best to block these calls - they're just trying to scare you into giving away info about HMRC. If you’re unsure, ring HMRC yourself. The legit HMRC phone has multiple options to pick from, not like these scammers who just answer straight away with no menu or anything.
