I didn’t pick up, but later I noticed a voicemail from hmre that sounded pretty threatening, so I just went ahead and deleted it. Definitely feels like a scam to me.

Had my phone ring from a Manchester code, but didn’t pick up since I don’t know anyone from there. Later got a voicemail from a lady with an American accent saying she’s from "hmre" or something like that. It was so clearly a fake, I can’t understand how people can actually get caught by it! The message kicked off with "this is officer wren" (I think that’s what she said anyway). Nearly called back just to tell them their scam is the most rubbishly done one I’ve ever come across. But of course, I didn’t bother.

Here’s the gist of the message: "We attempted to contact you, so we urge you to return our call. This matter is highly urgent. This is Officer Dennis Gray from HM Revenue and Customs. "Please take this communication seriously and get back to us. Should you fail to respond or if we don’t receive a call from your legal representative, be prepared for potential legal repercussions."
