Got a call from someone saying I'd better pay £1000 towards a £3000 debt or I’d be dragged to court. I told them I couldn’t afford that and they went on about borrowing cash from mates or selling my stuff 😂 Such a blatant scam.

Got a voicemail on 16th July 2019 from someone claiming to be Rachel Scott, an officer at HM Revenue & Customs. It was an automated voice warning that the matter was urgent and said I needed to get a solicitor involved. They kept saying there’d be court proceedings if I didn’t call back.

Some automated call came through, so I rang back out of curiosity. But the moment I said I wasn’t giving out any info because I didn’t know them, they just cut me off. I really doubt HMRC would behave like that. Plus, since I’ve been living in France for a couple years now, I don’t even have anything to do with HMRC anymore. Definitely looks like a scam to me.

Just got a voicemail from the same number and thought I’d call back. The lady who answered was really rude, with an accent that sounded Indian. She told me to be quiet because the call was being recorded, and warned that if I interrupted, they’d send a cop round to my house with an arrest warrant for unpaid tax. She asked for my solicitor’s contact, but I told her she should be speaking to my accountant instead. Apparently, I owe £4500 in tax, which is complete rubbish since my tax stuff is all sorted. Seriously, watch out for this scam and don’t fall for it!

I got a voicemail saying it was HMRC and that there was some urgent matter I needed to sort out, warning if I didn’t call back, bailiffs would come around. I knew straight away it was dodgy but called just to see what they'd say. An Indian-accented bloke answered and as soon as I mentioned returning their call, he started asking for my personal info. I told him I wasn’t giving anything away because it seemed like a scam, and he just hung up on me. Pretty obvious what’s going on here! Definitely a scam - best just block the number!

These people are just scammers working full-time. Honestly, the best thing you can do is give them a call and keep them busy as much as you can. If loads of us did this, it might actually slow them down. Otherwise, we just keep letting them get away with it and more folks end up getting tricked.
