I normally get loads of bogus calls on our home phone, but when my new mobile rang and the caller sounded quite threatening, it really shook me up at first. Luckily, I quickly searched online and stumbled upon this website filled with similar complaints. Thanks to this site, I feel better now and am going to delete the message off my phone.

Got a call from someone called Inspector William Spencer on 0161 5190 748 saying I owed money and needed to ring him straight away or contact my lawyer, or else there’d be serious trouble. I rang the police first, and they told me to look him up online and report it to the actual HMRC. When I searched his name and number, loads of similar complaints showed up. I’m relieved I’m not the only one they’re targeting, but it really shook me up. Surely authorities can do something to stop this crook?

Got a ring from this number recently. I actually decided to verify it by calling the government number they supposedly used. They nearly got me, dropping the name of a company I shut down like 13 years back but kept the same phone line for. They were pushing me to send a £5000 bank transfer. By the way, if you research VAT bonds, they’re usually for firms that have gone bust and just a heads up, VAT would contact you directly anyway.

Do yourself a favour and avoid this number, it’s definitely a scam. I wasted so much time on it and just feel really daft for falling for their tricks. My accountant soon told me it was all fake anyway. They even got nasty, hanging up on me, laughing when I was stressed and saying they’d contact the police and freeze all my bank cards. Sounds like a dodgy call to me. It was a woman with an Asian accent claiming to be from HMRC, told me they had to call me as part of official procedure. She kept saying my name and mobile number, saying I had some kind of case with the Inland Revenue. Then she asked for my solicitor's number. When I tried to get more info, she just wouldn’t give me any and even threatened to get the police to come round with a writ. I politely declined and just ended the call.

I got a missed call earlier and when I phoned back, a lady asked for my details. I didn't give her anything and she just got rude, telling me not to bother wasting her time. Definitely not how HMRC talks, so I reckon it was a scam call!
