Picked up the phone and nothing on the other end!! Wouldnt it be great if there was a way to enter a code that automatically penalises those annoying cold callers, nuisance callers, PPI chasers and silent ringers? I thought I read somewhere that these types of calls are meant to be illegal??? Yet people still get hammered by them all the time. They should just slap big fines on these companies and shut them down. Shame it might cause job cuts, but our country cant really afford all this hassle now.

This firm, Beneficial, keeps ringing non-stop. They claim they aren't allowed to take my number off their list. They kept pushing me to do their survey about what I like as a customer, but I just said no. After a while, they gave up and ended the call when I didn’t play along.

The phone didnt actually ring, but it managed to leave a voicemail anyway. Honestly, this is the weirdest voicemail I’ve ever had. You could hear some muffled noise in the background, then a kid saying something like “father” or maybe “bother” with an American accent, then just silence and the message ended. It was really short, less than 10 seconds in total.

I usually ignore calls from numbers I don't know. I let it ring out and then check here to see if anyone has said anything about it. If I find something sketchy, I just block the number. If nothing shows up, I give it a quick Google and if it's truly important, they'll call me again. Then I block anyway.

I always pick up when someone unknown rings, even if it’s from a local number. If it’s important, they’ll leave a message or try to get in touch another way. Just block the number. Don’t ever call back as it might be one of those scams where they charge you to return the call. These days, they’re even using 0800 numbers on landlines, which in my case are unlisted. Thank goodness for sites like this and the options from our phone companies to block these nuisance calls. Just block and move on.

It definitely seemed like an Indian call centre on the other end, ‘Joanne’ (yeah, like that’s her real name) asked for me using my full first name, which I only ever give out when doing insurance stuff, so that tells me where they snagged it from! I just let the phone lie while Jo (hope she’s cool with me being casual) rattled through her spiel and kept bugging me. Barely 2 minutes before she finally ended the call.

I got a call from a firm called "beneficial" and when I asked to be put on their no-call list, they just wouldn't do it. Instead, they started asking me loads of questions. They said it was for marketing purposes and that it would cut down on spam calls, which sounds a bit off to me since those companies already have my info anyway??? No idea who these callers are, but from what I see in other comments and the timing, they’re pretty persistent lately. I got four calls yesterday and one more just today. Since I only use my phone for personal stuff, I never pick up if I don’t know the number and just add them to my contacts as "Ignore". If it’s something important, they’d leave a voicemail, but strangely enough, these people never bother!
