Got a call from a woman with a strange accent trying to push life insurance on me. I told her I’m registered with the telephone preference service so she shouldn’t be calling. She claimed she got my number from some database and said it was perfectly legal. I told her to remove my details and that I didn’t want any calls. When I asked if she was calling from abroad, she said she was in England. Then she just hung up. I dialled back the number but it was busy. Tried again early in the morning, still no luck!

I always try not to answer with a simple "yes" or "hello" because I heard they might record that. Instead, I just say "Hi, can I ask who's calling?" or "Hello, who is this then?" and I never bother giving them a ring back. If it’s something important or legit, they’ll ring me again, right?
