I've received this call on my voicemail roughly six times now, and frankly, we just ignore it. It’s a total scam! The HMRC would never communicate like this. What’s truly alarming is that vulnerable individuals might be duped into believing they’ve committed an error. It's downright cruel behaviour. From my experience, having an answering machine is a smart move, as there are plenty of these scammers around. My advice? Don't pick up the phone; simply erase the message. There are dodgy dealings happening on mobile phones as well; I've noticed calls that start with our area code, but upon investigation, some trace back to Morocco, to name just one example. Stay vigilant, everyone!

Our elderly neighbour, who’s 85, got really scared when this number called him. The person on the line said, “We’ve been trying to reach you, call the police immediately,” then just hung up. Honestly, I reckon after about ten grumbles, folks should be allowed to go and chop off their bits. Then you’d spot their voice no trouble next call. After twenty complaints, burning them and their animals should be on the cards. Don’t go telling me that’s going too far. It’s not. Curiosity got the better of me, so I called the number back and was greeted by a robotic female voice. I ended up leaving my phone number, and now I'm wondering if I've fallen victim to a scam. I had a rather strange phone call this morning from this number. It was an automated recording claiming that HMRC was initiating legal action against me, urging me to press 1 to connect with my assigned case officer. I didn’t hesitate to hang up without engaging.

Got a call at 11.42 this morning and straight away thought it was a "scam" because H.M.R.C. always sends letters and wouldn't just ring up outta nowhere demanding stuff. I hung up without saying anything and checked your site, which showed me it’s really risky to deal with these callers.

Received a call earlier today. The only snippet I caught was "press 1 for case officer," as their transmission began while my voicemail greeting was playing. As someone who values privacy, I’m on the ex-directory list and have registered with the Telephone Preference Service. I’ve taken it up with my MP regarding these nuisance calls, and I’ve actually had a response from a minister at the Home Office, which is encouraging. However, the real conundrum lies with those international calls masquerading as local numbers!

Just like everyone else, I got a very real-sounding message saying HMRC are about to take legal steps against me and to press 1 to talk to my caseworker. Knowing HMRC wouldn’t done it this way, I ended the call straight away. Such a nasty scam, it could easily trick folks. Glad this site pointed it out so clearly!

Typical fake HMRC trying to scare me with legal stuff, total scam! Had a chat with some so-called "Case Officer" who claimed he was ringing from London. I asked for his phone number and said I'd ring back, then the line just cut off. Turns out the number actually comes from Manchester, not London at all. 0161 375 1755 has been ringing loads of people around Flintshire today - it’s really upset a lot of older folks who felt quite vulnerable. I’ve also reported it to Action Fraud.

Just like the others, the robocall said it was from HMRC. I had a laugh, then left the phone down for about 5 mins hoping it might stop more calls for a bit. After that, I dialled 1471 to get the number.

Got one of those HMRC phone calls too. I’m a small business owner and always make sure my payments are up to date, so it was pretty stressful getting a call like that. My accountant said HMRC wouldn’t ever call like this, so it’s just a horrible scam that’s scaring people. Really hope they can put an end to these annoying calls soon.

Got a call from these lot, and since I run a business I got a bit anxious thinking the tax I paid last month had disappeared. These kinds of calls need to be tracked down, shut down and prosecuted, no matter if they're based in India or elsewhere. Got calls from 01613751577 yesterday and again today, just like others, to my elderly Father In Law. The recorded message, in a posh English accent, claimed to be from HMRC and said he was going to be taken to court. When he pressed 1, the phone just hung up. Another family member looked into it and confirmed it was a scam. Father In Law reported it to GMP via their non-emergency 101 line and was told they know about it and to just ignore it. Maybe if loads of people report it to the police, something might actually get done.
