I got a dodgy recorded message, sounded like some computer generated voice, claimed to be from HMRC and was all threatening, telling me my lawyer had to ring them back. Pretty obvious it’s a scam - HMRC wouldn’t call like that, and they’re not some American outfit. Plus, they don’t finish calls with "take care," honestly sounded so fishy and not professional at all. Definitely someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing trying to fool people.

Answered the phone to a garbled recorded message. I called the number back and got a woman who spoke with an accent, not North American though, probably Eastern European. She checked some records and claimed I owed HMRC a large sum - something in the thousands - and tried to get me to agree to hiring a solicitor to deal with it.
