I received a rather unusual phone call earlier from a chap with a foreign accent who couldn’t quite get my name right. He inquired whether I was inundated with pesky marketing calls. To be frank, I usually let unfamiliar numbers go straight to voicemail, but I picked up this time since I was anticipating an important call. After explaining this to him, I added, “It seems I’m on the receiving end of yet another nuisance call now, and I really must free up the line for my expected call, so cheerio!” and promptly ended the call. While there is a faint chance it could have been a legitimate query, I tend to steer clear of all marketing calls, regardless of their authenticity.
