When I get a call from an unknown number, most of the time they hang up before the voicemail even starts. On the odd chance it does go to the recording, I listen quickly to check if it’s someone I know or want to speak to, and I cut them off if it is. Otherwise, I just end the call straight away. Since I started doing this, I hardly get any annoying spam or scam calls anymore.

Every day this week, this number has been ringing me multiple times, sometimes it’s a bloke on the line, other times it’s a woman, but both have a strong Indian accent. They keep asking for someone who isn’t me, using a completely wrong name, then they either hang up or ask if I’m from the UK, then I just end the call. Definitely sounds like a scam.

This number has rang me quite a few times now. Most of the time, there’s no one on the line, just silence. On the rare occasion when someone actually speaks, it’s usually a woman with an Asian accent asking if I’m a citizen of the UK. Quite baffling really.

This number has called me four separate times today. At first, there was just silence on the line. Then, an Asian person finally spoke, asking to talk to my mum. When I explained she’s no longer with us, they didn’t seem to care and kept pestering me with questions. I wasn’t polite and told them to do one. Blocked the number right after.

After I sent in my last report, I got this reply from TPS about those nuisance calls: "Even if your experience isn’t the same as we mentioned, unfortunately we can't move forward with the complaint because we don't know who's behind it yet. The numbers seem to be spoofed and the callers are using fake company names. However, your complaint will be added to our regular report for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)." It’s crazy that in today’s tech-savvy world these scam calls still slip through the cracks.

I got a call earlier, but as soon as I picked up, the line just cut out. TPS checked it out and said that even if it sounded like a real person, the calls from that company are actually done with a clever machine. It uses voice recognition and can even chat a bit. Sometimes, if you press certain buttons, it then puts you through to an actual human. But because it starts off automated, it still counts as an automated call. More info coming soon.
