Some guy with a thick Indian accent called, saying he was from UK Energy and asked about my heating setup. I told him it was a cold call, then he claimed he was ringing on behalf of the government. I told him it was illegal as I’m on the no-call list but he kept insisting the government wasn’t bound by that rule. So I just ended the call.

As soon as they began probing about my current heating arrangements, I decided to hang up. It felt like a rather awkward situation!

Told me he’d ring back in a couple of days with a senior advisor to sort the rest. Funny how it’s always a David or some typical English name, huh? Anyway, added this number to the blocked list, but it was a good laugh while it lasted!

Sounds like it's coming from some call centre where the call only goes through if you respond with "hello". If you just stay quiet when you pick up, you won't hear a thing and the call just ends on its own.

I picked up the phone and straightaway inquired who was on the line. A chap with a foreign accent replied, claiming he was phoning about my heating system and wanted to know its age. I was not impressed and firmly told him to keep his nose out! My number's registered with the Telephone Preference Service, so I'm guessing this is just some call centre abroad, even though the number appears to be Liverpool.
