So, I picked up the phone and this bloke starts telling me there’s a warrant out for my arrest over some tax fraud stuff after they supposedly reviewed my tax returns. I told him I’m all clear with my tax payments, and then he just abruptly ended the call. I reported it to the police straight away and also rang HMRC to check everything was alright. I recieved a call from a woman claiming to be with HMRC, telling me there was a legal case against me and that if I didn’t pay an amount today, my bank account would be frozen and police officers would visit my home to look into my finances. She sounded very legit, giving me a case reference and a sort of officer ID number. What really got me was she knew my full address and postcode, which scared me. I told her I needed to consult my solicitor first and then she just cut off.

Got a robotic voicemail saying it was from HMRC about some urgent issue, asking me to ring them back. I’m retired now but used to work in fraud, so I knew straight away it was dodgy. Honestly, if you haven’t got a phone with call blocking yet, grab one - they’re not expensive anymore. Mine keeps logs of 250 calls which helps loads. Whatever you do, don’t call that number back, it’s exactly what these scammers want.
