Got a call from a bloke saying he was ringing about some government refund thing. Reckoned it was for pensioners, so obviously aimed at older folks. I asked straight up what he wanted from me and instead of being clear, he just tried to keep going with his spiel. Told him to cut the nonsense and just say what he wanted, then he got all annoyed and said "right, I won’t bother then" and hung up. I called him out for what he is - an absolute scammer.

I got a call from someone claiming to be government and saying I was due a bank refund. They asked for my full name and address, but I just told them to send the money through the post instead. Right after that, they quickly ended the call.

Got a call about some government refund for secret bank fees, they said they'd post a cheque. The person already had my address but then asked for my DOB. When I questioned why he knew everything except that, he just ended the call. I reckon this is aimed at older folks. The guy spoke with an accent that seemed Indian or Pakistani.

Got a call from someone pretending to be from the government, told me there’s a scheme to get a bank charge refund and they’ll send me a cheque. They already knew where I live, which freaked me out a bit. Then they wanted my DOB, but as soon as I asked how they knew my address but not my date of birth, they just hung up. Sounds like a scam aimed at older folks to me.

Me: Hello? Scammer: Hello, is this Mr **** speaking? Me: Yeah, that’s me. Scammer: I’m Alex from the Claims Advisory team, how are you today? Me: Claims? What claim exactly are you referring to? Scammer: Well, sir, actually we’re not discussing any claim, that’s just what the department’s called. This call is about a refund related to some bank fees. Me: A refund for what exactly? Scammer: Ah, never mind, forget I mentioned it.

Just got a call today 16/10/25 from this bloke claiming he’d send me a “CHEQUE” to cover bank fees from the last 5 years. Turned out to be a total scam, kept him chatting for about ten minutes. All he wanted were my “Bank Details”! Told him exactly where to shove it and hung up. What a muppet!

Some bloke called saying his name was Alex Browne. I told him that sounded quite English but his accent didn't match. He mentioned some reference number for a refund or something like that. Didn’t ask me for any bank info though. Said they'd ring back later. I never share my bank details on phone calls anyway. Bit daft of me, but I ended up mentioning the name of one of my banks. Fingers crossed that wasn’t a mistake...

Got a call from some bloke called "Alex" with an Asian accent saying he was from the "Claims Advisory Dept", told me I'd put in a claim for a Government pension refund - funny thing is, I never did. He rattled off a cheque number and mentioned someone would ring back soon to let me know the amount. He asked loads of questions about my situation like if I could get to the bank, whether I was disabled, if I was married, and whether the mortgage was finished, seemed like he already had plenty of info on me. Thankfully, he never asked for my bank details.

They gave me a cheque reference number, something like 320 RDZ 1001. Some woman called me, said her name was Rachel, claiming I was due a government refund. When I asked her what kind of scam it was, she just hung up on me.

Got a call from this number earlier but didn’t pick up since I didn’t recognise it. Didn’t get a voicemail or anything either. Seeing what others have said here makes me glad I just left it ringing!

They didn’t request my account number or anything like that, but they did want to know which bank I use. After that, they said their team would ring me back.

Got a call claiming to be from some government office saying my husband was due a refund. Thing is, he passed away three years ago. Bit creepy really.

This number is dodgy, mate. Someone called saying they'd give me a refund but I didn’t trust it one bit. I just ended the call straight away before things got sketchy. Don't fall for it!

I got a call from someone saying they were from a claims advisory group offering a refund cheque for an overpayment linked to a government scheme. They wanted my passport ID and bank details, which seemed dodgy to me. Definitely watch out, this is a scam.

Got a call the other day claiming that the banks were giving pensioners some money back due to a mistake they’d made. But, of course, they wanted my bank info to send the ‘refund’. Total con if you ask me.

Someone called me about some fake bank fees, offered to help get my money back. Sounded a bit off to me.
