12 yearsI recently encountered a right dodgy phone scammer here in the UK. An Asian woman, claiming to be named Christine, rang me up out of the blue. She went on about how my broadband had been hacked and that I was apparently downloading some illegal content. She insisted that I fire up my computer and press the Windows key along with the R key. I pretended to comply, and she was expecting me to see a remote access login pop up. She then directed me to type in www.teamviewer.com. I faked needing to attend to something else and asked if I could ring her back later. She then provided me with the number 01515287183 and asked when I would be free for her to call again, saying she’d try again in an hour. However, when I dialled 1471, it revealed I had actually received a call from 0151287183. It’s definitely a scam, and I urge folks to be cautious. I went ahead and reported it to Action Fraud-those helpful people noted my details and assured me they’d reach back out within 40 hours.UKChristineAction Fraud12 yearsJust received a call that was rather similar.
