I can't believe what's been happening to my 86-year-old father's phone! In just a couple of hours, he received three calls from the same lot. Got a call from a woman claiming to be with Oftel, saying they were working to prevent scams on our home phone. Thing is, Oftel shut down ages ago, like 2003 or something I read on the uk gov site. Got a call saying my call blocker had just been updated to stop all those scam and sales calls. Told the person on the line that it clearly wasn’t working since I was still getting calls - then they just ended the call abruptly.

Some bloke was trying to sell me a call blocking deal, wanting my bank info. I kept him on the line for about 20 minutes before he lost it and started swearing at me! Definitely not what I’d call a professional approach!

I got a call from a bloke claiming it was to verify stuff so Ofcom could improve my call blocking. He kept pushing for my BT account number and got pretty rude when I refused to share any details over the phone since it was an unexpected call. I told him I’d rather check online to see if it was genuine. Weirdly, he already had my phone number, my name, and even my late husband’s name, plus he knew we paid by direct debit. It felt a bit creepy and totally unwanted.

I received a call recently where someone claimed they were investigating my meter reading for a number of energy providers. They had my meter number right there! I was advised to disregard an upcoming bill of £2600.00 because it has apparently been linked to the wrong postcode. Quite the mix-up, isn’t it?

Got a call today from a Liverpool number, I just let it ring out and went to voicemail. No one said anything when I checked the message. After seeing some other comments about this number, I’m really happy I didn’t pick up.

Got a call from a guy with an Indian accent, couldn't really catch the name he was trying to say, sounded like an English one though. He was talking about call blocking and scams, said something about it expiring today. I just hung up on him.

Got a call from someone called John claiming to be from the Call Blocking team, saying my service would finish today. He asked to talk to the person paying the bill but when I said they weren't here, he just repeated his pitch and then dropped the call.

Got a couple of calls from an Asian lady this morning, both times about my landline. Definitely felt like a scam to me.

This fella said he was from some opt-in phone service trying to upgrade our account to stop annoying calls. I didn’t buy it and asked for his website, but he couldn’t even spell it properly. When I mentioned I was still getting nuisance calls and that the register clearly wasn’t doing its job, he just went quiet and hung up on me.

Twice already today! First it was David claiming to be from Call Blocking, then I got a call from Jenny who said she was with some Telecoms firm. When I asked her questions, she just wouldn't answer and ended up hanging up once I mentioned I’d report it to the ICO.

Been getting calls three times this morning from the same number saying it was re. I kept telling them someone else already rang me, then they just hang up. I’ve activated the number block on my home phone now.

Got a call from a number I didn’t recognise, no message left. Seeing what others have said, it’s likely a scam, so I’ve just blocked it.

I got a call from someone saying I had to renew some "call blocking" service on my phone to stop spam and overseas calls. Funny enough, the two people I spoke to both had strong Indian accents and kept calling me "Ma’am" in a robotic kind of way. They wanted me to give them my "registration code" - no clue what that is! When I asked which company they were from and told them they should already have the code, the woman just said "bye bye" and hung up. I was curious what their endgame was, but I’m guessing they were after my bank details along with that mysterious code.

Got a call from some bloke named David, said he was with the Call Blocking team and that my dad gave him my number. As soon as I said I was going to report it, he just ended the call.

I received a call from a number claiming to be The Trauma Centre (UK) and had an immediate instinct to scrutinise it. Upon further inspection, it raised a few alarm bells... it could very well be a scam. It’s worth noting that it’s unfortunately the case that some Government agencies and even police may resort to these tactics to gather personal details from unsuspecting individuals. So, take heed-if you don’t recognise the number, it’s best to keep the phone down. The absence of a voicemail is a strong indicator that it’s either a dodgy caller or an official entity looking to pry into your information. Remember, The Trauma Centre (UK) is fiercely protective of patient confidentiality and would never ask for any sensitive information from anyone. Stay vigilant!

I hate to sound rude, but I’m pretty sure that call wasn’t on the level. The lady was nice enough, but it was pretty clear she was just reading off some script - nothing she said really added up. Best to be careful and I’d suggest not taking up any deals from this number.

So this bloke with an Indian accent rings me up saying my call blocking service was about to expire and offered to sort out the renewal. I told him great, and the first number I’m putting on my block list is his. Absolute scammer - buzz off!

Got called by this number two times within a couple of days. Sounded like some foreign call centre, couldn't really understand a word they were saying. Went ahead and blocked it straight away.

I got a call from a woman who said that starting next month, they were going to lower our phone bills. She then asked about how many calls I usually make, and when I said about 57,000, she just hung up straight away.

Got a call from some guy with an Indian accent, couldn't really make out what he was saying. I asked straight away where he was calling from and he said London. But the number showed up as from Liverpool. I called him out on it, told him he was a scammer and should be ashamed for trying to trick folks. He hung up right after. Blocked the number, though I'm sure it won’t stop him from using other ones. Just gotta keep being careful with these annoying calls.

I got a call from 01514560676 saying my "call blocking" service was about to end or something. When I asked them which company my phone line was with, the bloke just dropped the call. Sounded like some dodgy overseas call centre doing a spam routine.
