This morning, I got a call but as soon as I picked up, the caller just ended the call.

Received a call from 01498439719, which appeared to be from abroad. When it went to voicemail, they just hung up. The initial few digits seemed like a UK area code, so I dug around on here, found some info, and have blocked the number now. This number, 01498830682, called me a few times today. It popped up as an international caller, so I didn’t pick up and let it go to voicemail. As soon as my recorded greetings kicked in, the call just dropped. I’ve decided to block this number now. These sorts of calls are really annoying and need to be put to an end.

Got a call from 01498 90846, it was a recorded voice claiming to be my ‘internet provider’. They said I’d made some illegal transactions and threatened to cut my internet off in 24-48 hours. Just before that, I’d had a similar recorded call from 0191 262 7516 with the exact same warning. Both wanted me to press ‘1’ to talk to someone about it. Oddly, when I tried 1471, it didn’t show the caller’s number or the time, so that’s why I put a question mark after it.

Got a call from 01498 501870 earlier today, around quarter past twelve (29/01/20). The guy claimed it was about some bitcoin video I supposedly watched online! What freaked me out was he knew my first name, even though my landline isn’t listed anywhere. I just hung up straight away.

Got two calls today from 01498 435894 then 01438 318264. Both were those robocalls saying something about a £600 transfer abroad, mentioning Mastercard or Visa but not naming any bank. They wanted me to press 1 to continue. Didn’t do a thing, and after about half a minute the line just cut off. The numbers are close but different area codes - checked 1471 two times to make sure it was right. Total scam, avoid.

I got a call from 01498 435894, some automated voice saying there was a Mastercard or Visa charge of about £660 going abroad. They didn’t say which bank or which card it was about. Then it said to press 1 to talk to someone, but I just cut the call there.

Got a call from 01498### today, a woman's voice with very clear English, but it was a recorded message saying something about MasterCard and Visa, saying that £### had been sent overseas from my account, and I had to press 1 to stop it. I didn’t press anything and just waited, then they disconnected. It was a bit worrying since I’d just been dealing with a YouGov site recently and doing ID verification through Experian.

I got a call from 01498 718974 from some sort of automated message saying it was Visa or Mastercard security. They claimed £600 was taken from my account and sent abroad, and told me to press 1 if that was true. It sounded dodgy, so I just ended the call. I’ve looked over my bank statements and nothing like that has happened. I did a 1471 check and that’s the number that came up, so watch out for it.

If you get a call from the 01498 area code, just know it’s not linked to any real location. Most likely, it’s someone trying to scam you, so be careful!

Got a call today from 01498###, a woman named Sandra with a thick accent. In the background, there was that typical call centre noise. She claimed there was an issue with my broadband, but I just said everything was fine and ended the call straight away.

Just a heads up - this person isn’t actually from BT, I rang BT directly to check. He’ll try to get you to switch on your computer. They often say stuff like your IP address has been used for some dodgy activity. Basically, they’ll use any excuse to grab your attention. If you spot a call from a 01498### number, it’s best to ignore it. According to my provider, they call from lots of different numbers though. Stay safe out there!

I got a call from 01498 ### and the person said they were from BT. Their English wasn’t very good, and they told me that the internet speeds nearby were going down. Then they asked me to start up my computer. Felt a bit off to me.
