What a con! Just switch off your computer and then power it on again.

I must admit, I fell for the whole scam. The screen was flashing red, coupled with some alarming warning sounds. After several frustrating hours wasted on that 01473 number, I eventually caved and allowed "Online Resolve" to clean my computer and reinstall the so-called "damaged or infected" software. I even forked out just over £150 for their so-called services. I doubled back and called my bank to verify that the payment was legitimate after receiving a text alert that it seemed suspicious. The only silver lining in this whole debacle is that my son has meticulously gone through my operating systems and found absolutely nothing amiss. The replacement software they installed is indeed a legitimate version of Windows, and I’ve since received an update for Office. Today, I’m taking the precaution of changing all my passwords, informing the bank, and reaching out to the police as well. Take heed and learn from my blunders! Best, David Edwards

This number is totally a scam, so avoid calling it. If you’ve had any problems, try rebooting your computer and running Malwarebytes to clean up whatever might be causing it.

I tapped on a Trump-related story on Facebook and next thing you know, some dodgy stuff got downloaded onto my phone. It gave out scary warnings about some sort of disaster. Honestly, steer clear of that story and whatever you do, don’t ring the 01473 number!

I ran Malwarebytes free on my mum's computer and it cleared the Trojan without any hassle.

That number is a complete con, spinning a tale about a non-existent virus alert in an attempt to fleece unsuspecting victims. Best to steer clear!

I received a red alert message on my screen that mirrored the one mentioned earlier, which restricted my access to the computer. I reached out to Microsoft for assistance, but they were completely unaware of the situation. After doing some research on this number online and rebooting my computer, everything seems to be back to normal. Cheers, MJL.

Definitely a scam. I clicked on a link about D.T. getting arrested and suddenly got a scary pop-up saying my computer had a trojan worm and I had to ring Microsoft on some number. Chrome got frozen but the rest of the PC still worked, so I just restarted it. Everything looks fine now. I’m running a full virus scan just to be safe, but I doubt it’ll show anything.

my dad's laptop got frozen earlier today and he was told to ring this number. they demanded £400 claiming to be from Microsoft in LA. luckily i overheard the call from another phone while looking up the number and told him to just hang up, which he did. he restarted his computer and hopefully it’s all fine now. seriously, don’t give them any money!

I gotta say, I did click on some Donald Trump link (I’m from the UK, mind you) and figured Facebook links would be alright. Did a virus scan afterwards and it came back clear, but every time I open MS Edge, that annoying message pops up again. Not sure what to do next. Anyone got any ideas?

I got a message on my screen saying my PC was infected with some virus code like 055BCCAC9FEC, and it looked like it was from Microsoft. The message said to ring that number straight away. It seemed pretty official at first, but I suspected it was dodgy. Since I couldn’t close the message normally, I just shut down my computer and rebooted it. After a bit of searching online, I found out it’s a sneaky scam. If you ring them, they probably try to get your personal details or take control of your machine. Best advice - don’t call this number under any circumstances.

Got the same kind of warning that others mentioned, with some beeping noise along with it. I called the number 01473 378279 but felt suspicious of the caller and just ended the call. I’ve also run a quick scan on my device and everything came back clear. In the past, when I dealt with sketchy numbers, I usually try to look them up or check their website while still on the call to see if it’s a scam, but this time I couldn’t do that because the page wouldn’t shut properly.

I didn't actually receive a call from this number, but instead, it was one I was supposed to dial after I encountered some dodgy business when I clicked on a "Trump arrested" link. Now, my Microsoft Edge browser is playing up-I've attempted to close it and even rebooted my router, yet that pesky message is still there. Quite frustrating, I must say!

I really don't get why anyone would choose to tap on a link about Donald Trump. Who's actually interested in that?

I got this number pop up after I clicked a link about Trump. The call said it was from Microsoft support and claimed my computer was infected with some Trojan worm thing, like RDN/Trojan.worm!055BCCA or something. The warning just kept reappearing, even after I shut it down. I know a bit about tech stuff, so I’m having a go at sorting it. Managed to get into Safe Mode and cleaned up the startup programs with msconfig to try and fix it.

I had a similar ordeal not long ago. After shutting down my laptop, I was greeted by the same annoying message upon rebooting. In the end, I did a thorough scan of my device and it claimed everything was clear, yet those pesky alerts just wouldn’t budge. Ultimately, I decided to power down the machine entirely and reset my wi-fi. Upon starting it up again, everything is now functioning like a dream!

Had a very similar thing happen to me - got a message on Facebook about Donald Trump. The bloke on the other end seemed dodgy, showing me a site and telling me my PC was practically fried with viruses once I let him have remote control. He then wanted more than £200 to supposedly fix it. I told him no way and cut off the connection straight away. Ran a full scan afterwards and my computer was fine. Could've gone south quicker, but these lots just want to rip you off with fake claims.

My mum ended up in the exact situation after clicking a link about Donald. Suddenly, loads of virus alerts popped up along with a message telling her to ring a certain number. Whatever you do, don’t call it! It’s definitely a scam!!

I've had a similar experience, to be honest. Received a few typical calls claiming to be from Microsoft. So, I got myself a device to block those pesky numbers, which did the trick for a bit. But now they’ve switched tactics; they’re bombarding me with warnings about a so-called virus, accompanied by this irritating high-pitched sound. I decided to give the number a ring-01473378279-only to be met with confusion on both sides; the person on the line was from 'Microsoft,' yet we couldn’t quite make ourselves understood. It really makes you question how some folks earn a living, doesn’t it?

These individuals are certainly not representatives of Microsoft. They’re exceedingly dubious and engage in scamming activities. Their tactic involves trying to extort money from you by gaining access to your computer and coercing you with threats of erasing all your data if you refuse to pay. Should you see an alarming message on your screen advising you to call them right away - for heaven's sake, don’t do it! Just power off your computer and reboot it.

This week, their cunning scheme involves luring you with a post on Facebook claiming that Donald Trump has been arrested. Just disregard that post entirely.

I received an alert from Facebook stating that Donald Trump had been taken into custody, prompting me to ring the number without delay. Upon calling, they requested that I access my computer, but luckily, I declined their invitation. I have a strong suspicion that they'll make an effort to reach me on my mobile now that they possess my details. After that encounter, I powered down my computer, and so far, everything appears to be fine.

Pretty sure this number is tied to some kind of online computer scam.

I found myself in quite a pickle the other day when my computer was compromised by what they call "ransomware." In my naivety, I was duped into believing this number belonged to "technical support" for Microsoft. After giving them a bell, I ended up losing a hefty £170, all in the name of having my system "sorted." They cleverly leveraged the chaos caused by some site outages in the USA to frighten me into forking over the cash for their dubious "repairs." It's a classic case of being taken for a ride, really!

They purport to be from Microsoft support, yet they're trying to extract money from you for some sort of 'protection' service.

I recently encountered a rather alarming message on my screen claiming that my computer was under siege from hackers, urging me to contact 'Microsoft Technical Support' at a specific number without delay. However, after reaching out to Microsoft through their official channels, I've been informed that the number in question is a complete fraud. It seems that rather than calling me, these tricksters are trying to entice me into dialing their dubious line. It’s best to steer clear of such scams!
