Got these persistent calls from Asian voices with strong accents saying they're from TPS, asking if I want to update my TPS info and if I pay by direct debit. Total scam, obviously. Don’t give them any info at all. When you block one, they just call again from a number with the last few digits changed. Luckily I can block them on my phone. It’s been a right pain, ringing every hour for about two weeks now. Make sure to block them and tell your older family members to watch out too.

Got a call on the 15th of December from a woman with a sort of foreign accent, maybe she was pretending. She said she was stopping unwanted calls but then asked for my bank info, so I just hung up.

I just check my phone screen and if it doesn’t show who’s calling, I hang up straight away. If it’s late at night, I just ignore it completely. You’ve gotta teach yourself to do the same. Our politicians won’t bother sorting these annoying calls because it actually needs effort they don’t want to put in. If it sounds like it might be from an official source, I tell them to send me a letter instead. That’s that.

Some bloke with a weird accent called me, claiming he was ringing all the way from London. He wanted the expiry date of my Visa card and said he worked for the Telephone Management Service. I'm so fed up with these calls that don’t even ring properly and sometimes no one talks when you answer. When they do, it’s like they’re just arguing with you. I’ve stopped picking up altogether now. I try using 1471 to check if it’s a legit number but often it's not. Some days they call up to four times! Wish there was a way to block them - I’d even use a whistle just to annoy them back! On 14th December, my phone buzzed but I missed the call. When I tried to ring back, I was met with a recorded message saying something like “this number is no longer in service, please hang up and try again. didx, the wholesale DID provider with coverage in over 100 countries. Thanks...” Curious, I looked up didx online and found loads of info. One thing I found interesting was from a Wikipedia intro explaining DID (direct inward dialing). Seems like DID was made so businesses could use fewer physical phone lines but still have multiple numbers. The phone company signals which number is being called before routing it internally on the business’s system (PBX). Apparently, this was done by pulsing certain digits to direct calls properly. Still no clue why they rang me though!

So just today, the 14th of December, I got a call from this number for the very first time. But lately, over the past few weeks, we’ve been getting calls from a pretty similar number that ends in a 7, which makes us think it’s probably the same person or firm behind it. Got a call from someone saying they were from "Windows support". Said his name was "Peter Wilson" but spoke with a really strong Asian accent. He told me he was working out of "100 Victoria Street SW1E 5JL" but couldn't even tell me the name of the building there, or what main road runs past it. Totally fishy, plus if he was legit he’d be calling from an "02" number. As soon as he realised I'd caught on, he just ended the call.

Got a call from someone with an Asian accent, numbers ending in 62 and 69, saying they’re from some phone blocking firm that can stop nuisance calls! Spoke at length with a bloke called John on this number, though he wasn’t quite clear whether he was part of the TPS or some call blocking agency, kept flip-flopping about it. Most likely from an Asian call centre. I kept the chat going for a while, he kept saying he didn’t need any bank info. Eventually I got fed up and just let him ramble for a bit until he twigged no-one was there and hung up. Fingers crossed I wasted a bit of his time and saved someone else from the hassle, if only briefly.
