I received a rather dubious call today regarding my insurance for white goods. The caller claimed that my cover was on the verge of lapsing and that, since I hadn't made any claims, I could avail myself of a significant discount-dropping from £104 to £90 annually. However, they insisted that the £90 had to be settled immediately as this so-called offer was only valid for a single day. Curiously, they mentioned my credit card number starting with ****, which was accurate for my debit card. When I inquired about arranging a callout for my washing machine, I was informed that I’d need to pay that £90 upfront, as my insurance had supposedly expired just a day earlier. I ended the call after my attempts to obtain their customer service number proved fruitless. Clearly a SCAM! All too believable, though. It makes one wonder why there aren’t stronger measures in place to thwart these unscrupulous individuals from exploiting others.
